    Exclamation creating custom SMS tones

First: what does UI stand for? (still new at this ppl! ^_^)

Second: I am using the site listed below to learn how to create my own SMS tones but I haven't a clue what Fugu is or where to find it. I didn't read anything on this page saying that I had to have it downloaded....*shrugs* If you can help me out with this, or better yet, know of an easier way to create my own SMS tones, please let me know.

    Thanks!

    User interface is correct.

SMS tones use the file name:
    sms-received1.caf

New tones can be applied through winterboard but must be in the correct folders.

*theme name*/UISounds/ your sound files labeled like I said above

You can also use biteSMS to use any ringtone on your phone as your SMS ringtone.

And you can use the program iRinger to make your own tones and have them easily loaded into your iTunes Ringtones list.

    Default Jailbroken?

easiest way for me to make ringtones is through iTunes.

    For Windows:
1.) Select a 30sec play window on any song in your library.
2.) Create a AAC Version of it now (you'll have a copied track but it will only be 30secs long)
3.) Go to Control Panel> Folder Options> View> UNCHECK BOX: Hide Extensions for Known File Types> Apply/OK
    4.) Cut&Paste 30sec song onto your Desktop.
5.) Change this songs file name underneath, from ending in .m4a, to .m4r (it is now a [r]ingtone and no longer a [a]udio file).
6.) Make sure the ORIGINAL 30sec audio file is no longer in the iTunes library. If you have to, delete it. (ringtone will not be allowed into iTunes with the original 30sec audio track still in the library.
7.) Drag and drop the new .m4r audio file back into iTunes and it will automatically go into the ringtones folder.
8.) FINALLY: SYNC iPHONE, RINGTONE CREATED AND SAVED IN YOUR PHONE'S SOUND SETTINGS!!!

Hope your using windows. your welcome.

Maybe if you spent as much time reading the question as you did typing your answer you would of seen your not answering his post.

    He wants "SMS" tones...

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. I don't believe they can be changed without using iFile or ssh. Do you have a source?

Easiest way to do this is to donwload and install iRinger to a Windows based PC. Open to song/audio file, select a clip range (iRinger supports up to 40 seconds) and export it directly to iTunes.

Your custom Ringtone (not sms tone) will appear in iTunes however you named it in iRinger.

On your iPhone, buy biteSMS (it's worth it) and install it through Cydia.

Once it is installed, click (touch?) the biteSMS icon and from there you can select any iTunes ringtones on your phone to work as an SMS ringtone.

This is what I do because I don't feel like SSH'ing into my phone and overwriting files, and I can have a basically unlimited amount of Text Tones.

New tones are easily applied through winterboard without overwriting the factory sounds. Plus wether hooking to pc for your program, or ssh it's still using a computer so there isn't really a time saver there..... To each his own

I'm still waiting for someone to create a tweak/app to insert new sms tones into the new formatted list.
