I just got a brand new 256GB Kingston DT310 usb flash drive and was looking forward to loading it up with a bunch of DVDs I converted to .mp4 format and using iFile to play the movies on my iPad directly from the USB Stick through iFile.
Well, I went ahead and moved one of these .mp4s over from my laptop to the flash drive, plugged it into my iPad through the Camera Connection kit and navigated to it through iFile. When I hit the file name, it start to open the video player than says "Error: This movie format is not supported"
Also, when I plug the same USB flash drive into my 2010 MacBook Air and try to play it directly from the flash drive, I also get the same kind of error message saying that it is not a file type that Quick Time recognizes. I also tried moving it from the flash drive to the MacBook Air desktop and play it from there and it gave me the same error message.
When I moved the exact same file from my laptop into iTunes and then synced it onto the iPad it plays perfectly!! So all I can gather is that it's related to what happens to the file once it's moved onto the USB Flash Drive, or how the USB Flash Drive attempts to send the info to the iPad or MacBook Air
The USB Flash Drive is formatted as exFAT (default), with the only other option listed as NTFS.
I am dying to be able to carry 150 movies on a USB stick that can be used to watch my movies either on the iPad or MacBook Air when I travel.
Oh no... Yeah be careful with fakes. If/when you get a legitimate flash drive, please come back and post your results/success with this. I would love to know too.
