Actually, the question is asking what you want done. Changing the name within the file system warrants a different answer than if, say you wanted the names to appear differently under the sounds menu on settings.
Open mouth, insert foot.

Well....sorry if I misunderstood your comment or question.
What I'm trying to do is, to change the name in the settings. I've already changed the sounds but names doesn't match. So yes, I want the names to appear differently under the sounds menu on settings.

you want the en.lproj folder of preferences.app. you need to change
Sounds.strings file. the text in quotes after DEFAULT, ALTERNATE1,2,etc needs to be changed to what you want it to read. hope that helps

are you working on iOS 4.2.1 ?
I cannot seem to get mine to change. It always goes back to BELL and ELECTRONIC even though I changed those.

Yes, I did. I had no problems changing it in 4.1 but apparently there is a change to this in 4.2.1 and I havent gottn it to work yet.

did you reboot? I'm not sure if that matters or not but worth a try.

I've just found out it's different if you r on 4.2.1.....I have to get home then I'll check it out...
Ok...try this...*go to /System/Library/Framework/AddressBookUI.framework/English.lproj and edit the AB.strings. Simply change the name within the <string> marks to what you choose to see in Sounds.strings file to what ever you want. Save and Respring. If its not working let me know...

That was it!
I was going nuts trying to find it. I had a file explorer that would search for a filename but I deleted it and cannot find one that does that.
Now on to solving the boot logo (failure to change) problem.
