Chinese iPhone 4 - need to change google maps source

You know i was considering selling my iphone 4, and just getting the new iphone 5 or whatever when it comes out from NZ, cos of this problem haha. So much better now, thank you!! =] =]

Pleasure - glad it all worked!

The same hacks, in principle, will work if you upgrade - it worked from 4.1 to 4.21 (but only after the unteathered JB was released - it didn't work with redsn0w). BUT.... Yes, you'd have to redo all 3 hacks again, after jailbreaking, and also re-edit the various files manually, rather than use the same ones that have been posted here, so if you're not comfortable with using a hex-editor, I probably wouldn't bother! There's little reason to upgrade in most cases, but if you do, back up your SHSH blobs, so you can always revert back to earlier os if necessary.

It's great that the iPhone comes unlocked in China, but next time, get one from Hong Kong is the moral of this story!

Yeah i dont think ill be upgrading to any firmware anytime soon.. too much hassle.. haha yeah i got it as a gift, but dont think ill be getting it from china again.. just going to get it from my own country haha

I also have a Chinese iphone4 and very new to the iphone scene.

My ip4 is now on 4.3.2 . Is there a chance I can mod the google map and other google services like you did?

4.3.2 is now jailbreakable.

After I 'fix' the google services, can I update the newest firmware (say, 4.3.3) from Apple and keep every thing I've modified?

Hi Ziz,

In theory, the same principle of hacking the dyld file should work - it worked on 4.1 and 4.21, but I haven't tested it (and have no intention of upgrading my firmware to find out!).

If you jailbreak your phone and then follow the instructions above (hex locations will be different, but it's easy to do a search and then make the adjustments), you should be able to find out soon enough. If you have any general questions, I can probably help, although the specifics may be different on the new os. Good luck!

Put the Youtube app back on with no problems
Maps are not offset anymore so no need to fix that
Search engine had been sorted out with no problems using methods mentioned before.

Now the map language fix - I did everything as mentioned using Hexfiend on Mac OSX - copied the dyldd file back and now I am stuck on Apple logo.

Going to try and get in by USB to rename the old file

Anyone done this successfully on 4.3.1
?

I got exact the same problem.

I've jail-broke my 4.3.2 phone and used ifunbox to copy dyldd file out, edited the "ditu" and "google.cn", renamed the the original dyldd file to dyldd_OLD, copied the edited file back to the folder.

Got white apple after rebooting.

Now I restore the system.

Any one any ideas?

yes, i succeeded a while ago, yet forgot to update this thread. wrong-editing the dlyd file will cause white apple.

use my edited dlyd file for 4.3.3 and your map should show up with Pin Yin. Let me know when you are ready, i will upload the file to some file-hosting website - just don't want the link to be expired when you see this thread.

I had the issue on 4.3.3 getting stuck at Apple logo, but I have found a fix for that hack.

Basically copying file over WinSCP corrupts it. An inplace edit will do the trick

I wrote up a tutorial in my blog BlahBear's Hive: Fix Chinese characters issue in Map for iPhone/iPad sold in China

It modifies dyld_shared_cache without copying it.
