Default Copy iPhone applications from an iPhone in 4.1?
I'm wondering if anyone has recently tried to do this. I'm wanting to understand the relationship between apps that get installed and SpringBoard. Apps that get installed appear to live in var/mobile/Applications. Currently all of them are in folders that appear to be in random number formats (i.e. - 70BE5540-737E-490F-8A9A-AC7479C78317). The xxxx.app and supporting files are then in those folders.

I've attempted to simply pull the folder off the phone (via ssh)onto my desktop, then respring - app is gone - as expected. Copy the exact same folder back over, set permissions to owner=mobile, permissions 755, respring - no dice.

    I'm wondering if anyone knows:
    1. How are the folder numbers generated? Random? Algorithm?
    2. Where is the connection made between the folder and the SpringBoard? i.e. - Where is the reference to the app's folder held?

Any information that anyone has would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    --floyd

I imagine the numbers will be generated using an algorithm..
And the reason you can't simply drag the files back into your device is because they have to be installed from an ipa folder.. I honestly couldn't tell you why the app won't come back even though it's previously been installed.. My best thought is that maybe when you remove it and Respring, it thinks the app is no longer installed. So when you chuck it back in it won't appear on springboard because it hasn't been re-installed..
Hope this helps in some way
