[Project] Improve Overall Quality of Front-Facing Camera of iPhone 4

So, I decided to see/test if I can improve the overall quality and settings of the front-facing "VGA" camera of the iPhone 4 and make it nearly the same as the rear-facing "5MP" camera....

So, all I did was edit a few plists and I think this can still be improved and made almost as same as the rear-facing camera if not identical

NOTE: I haven't got a chance to test how FaceTime looks yet, but once I do, I will surely to post, or furthermore...someone can state the results for me!
But anyways,
here are the results thus far {attached;1st pic: Rear-facing;2nd pic: Front-facing}

i dont think the settings are limiting the camera. its just not as good. it would require switching out the camera to make it better

^I would like to accept that fact, but once you take a look at the plist files [specifically the AVCapture & CameraSetup.plist files] you can see that Apple purposely degraded the height & width of the FF camera compared to the RF camera when in actuality the pixelformat & sensor are exactly the same...

That sounds like apple. I plan on getting the new iPod soon. Can you email me what u did so I can replicate it on the iPod?

All i did so far...was changed some values in the AVCapture.plist & CameraSetup.plist...which I have attached below

Make sure you backup your original files first by renaming it to something so that you know its backup..(adding like .bak at the end is what i did)

Then just copy over the attached/modified plist files to its directory...
For iPhone 4..../System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/N90
not sure what the last folder would be for iPhone 4 if it would be N90 or not

this didnt work for me..when i press the switch camera button it acts like its going to switch but it only switches back to the rear camera no front facing cam (WITH PICTURE MODE) but on video mode it switches but stretches my face and also my when i move my cam left it goes right and when i move it right it goes left..great idea though!!..im sure you will get it done..

^^hmm...thats strange, are u sure u
1. backed up everything first
2. copied the files over to its right folder in:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/
3. Made sure to check permissions to 777 {not that it would matter as much}
4. Respring/Restart your iPhone

Same here, tried using just one of the .plists aswell. No luck! Great idea tho, hope u get it working.

Lets not argue...but in simple terms, yes they r the same. The reason? Because though the actual camera module [hw] may be somewhat different..but the way the iOS interprets it depends solely on the firmware itself..an example/ back in the past when trying to enable v.recording on iphone 2g/3g...changing the pixelformat for either of those plist's resulted in a complete different action of the camera module...
All I'm trying to say is we can amp up the plist which controls both camera to being almost to complete identical with each other so that the FC is just as clear and sharp as the RC (granted it wont be perfect 5MP quality) but still.....
