sorry for sounding like such a noob, but how do i know which theme i have? i usually just find what i want to change, and edit them in photoshop and replace them in the folder on the iphone, so im not familiar with the themes. i found the themes folder, but i have a few themes, which are checked in winterboard
eg: fancy black dialer.theme, black status bar.theme, istrings & black navigation bars

try this: make the UIImages folder, put your .png files in there); put THAT folder in a new folder, name it something like "BatteryIcon.theme", then put that in your themes folder. be sure to check it in winterboard to activate it, and respring...
