any way to extend cell signal?

Im using a 3GS on t-mobile's network and since I moved into my new place I almost never have signal which is terrible since my cell is my only phone. There is a radio tower between me and the cell tower so I go from 4-5 bars when Im a few blocks away to 0-1 bars when Im home

Is there any way to extend signal?
Anyway to use wifi at my house for texts at least?

There are programs like 3G unrestrictor from Rock/cydia that allow wifi things over 3G. Can you do the opposite?

only thing i can think of is mod your carrier settings so you can choose what network you want and see if other towers do better.
