trying to make sms tone

I'm trying to make a .aiff file in to a .caf file, i have just tryed to rename it and i have tryed to use itunes when i try to put it in to my phone with Winscp it does not replace the file and it still has the .aiff file extention after the name any ideas

On Windows: Click Start --> Control Panel --> Folder Options. Then hit the View tab, un-check "Hide extensions for known file types" and hit Apply. Then try to rename the file to .caf by deleting the .aiff at the end.
