help! text message button in contacts broken

when i open up my contacts, select a contact and press the text message button the button lights up but nothing happens..can someone point me to the file that controls this button?

I have the exact same problem.
And never installed something in addition to contacts or messages.
If anyone have a suggestion/solution is more than welcome.
