Tips/Hacks/Mods to speed up Cydia?
Don't get me wrong, Cydia is awesome but it is so painstakingly slow!
I've done the hack to get rid of adverts on it, but is there anything you can do to stop it from downloading updates every time you open it?

and RockApp is quicker anyway
but it also has downsides...

NoCyFresh renames a primary Cydia file in /Applications/Cydia. This can be dangerous if for example 1) Cydia needs/wants to update itsself, or 2) a springboard crash, or 3) ???. These reasons and more are of major concern by the 'experts' and why it is considered dangerous.
NoCyFresh can be dangerous ..... absolutely.
Personally, I'll live with slow Cydia. With all the various software and levels of developers expertise, testing, and verification I already have enough problems keeping my iPhone functioning well.Last edited by Mes; 07-02-2010 at 03:43 PM.

yeh there was alot of talk by the devs about how this package shouldnt be used its best to live with slow cydia.
one more thing anyone find the fact you have to wait for it to load when you click on changes now, really annoying??

have come to the conclusion that best way to speed cydia up is to uninstall all of the repo's apart from bigboss. The others are unnecessary and youw on't miss them at all

cheers ct0wn, general point I was making is get rid of unnecessary repos which basically have the same stuff as each other

I can agree with that. Over time I would add a repo just to download or try out one package from there. Recently I went in and removed all the "Entered by user" repos from Cydia (there were quite a few) and it really made an improvement in start up time.
The "legitimate" community repos installed by Cydia are not supposed to duplicate each other (BigBoss, ModMyi, ZodTTD, etc).
Not exactly a speed hack but one trick a lot of people don't seem to know is that if you go to the Sections tab and tap the Edit button you can disable the display of sections you don't care about. For example I don't use Winterboard so I removed themes and fonts.
