I have to give some props for this app that closes mail and iPod
One thing that make me MENTAL is when the mail app and the iPod app doenst close. I know that there are a bunch of apps out that that do certain tweaks to close stuff but I found this and I have to say that I LOVE IT !!!! Simple, straightforward, one click and its all close.
1st...making clear that ALL CREDIT goes to fubaya as it was his post that I found. Here is what it says.....
"If anyone is interested, here is what I've been using forever. It's a super simple script that runs from a Springboard icon. Just tap it and it will kill itunesstored, MobileMusicPlayer (ipod), Mail and Safari then toggle the SBSettings free memory button. If you don't want it to close one of those, like the iPod for example, open killer.sh and delete that line.
Unzip this attachment to your root directory (EDIT: My mistake, unzip it to the /Applications directory, not root!). It will create a directory called "kill.app". Make the permissions 755 (or read + execute) for everything in the directory and respring. You should have a new icon on Springboard. Open some Apple apps then tap the icon to kill them.
You may need to change the icon because I use the Matte Nano theme with small icons so it will probably look funny without the Matte Nano overlays.
That quitter/RAM script is really unnecessary. I told the guy writing it that but he kept on and the code has grown and gotten uglier. They tried to get it on a repo but BigBoss rejected it, saying it was a bad idea."
OP is here Disable mail.app and safari in background?
Scroll down and the zip file is there. I would post it but I am not about taking credit where its not due.
I am thinking that there might be a downside on running the flash or CPU hard when shutting down. All I can tell you is that this thing is AWESOME.
Anyone want to chime in on any consequences that it might have ?

or you could use backgrounder and disable those app's backgrounding capabilities.... probably like 200000000 times easier and probs safer...

tbh it does sound quite good now i read it properly, and it does get annoyin when they randomly run in background, and if you change the iPod's backgrounding settings to never background then you have tro have the app open to listen to music.. im gna download and give it a try.. will feedback!

I am having this issue in iPhone 4 4.2.1. I remember installing some thingy that prevented them from running on my previous iPhone 2G 3.1.2.
Can the same be done here?

I can make a .deb of this if you want. It'll be easier to install for most and will be automatic.

That's the files I am using - they are not mine. Fubaya made them on MMyi
Please check if you find any other name changes - ipod is not mobileplayer anymore.
Sparrow ( i think because of sparrow+) is not getting killed and mobilephone either

I am still looking for a way to kill phone too - MobilePhone is not doing that. shm117 wanted to do a deb - so ...
Best would be a script with preferences to check and uncheck which apps and a timer would be awesome
