Have you seen the abundance of themes out there that use blank icons? They are needed to use some themes.

Yes, iBlank is great (and needed) for some themes. As for Winterboard being slow, it's really snappy for me on my 3G[S].

To the OP - the issue is caused by the MMI repo not giving the iBlank.app and Files folder proper permissions. There is an update in the MMI repo now to version 3.0.2. Try that one, if that still does not work, you have to perform a chmod 755 * on the iBlank.app and Files folder and then reboot your iPhone.

No problem. You'll need MobileTerminal installed on your iPhone and you'll need to know your Applications.xxxx folder name. It varies from phone to phone what letters/numbers come after the period in Applications.xxxx. What I recommend is using SSH/WinSCP or Cyberduck, if you're on a Mac, and navigate to the folder to find out the extension of the Applications folder. It can be found in: /private/var/stash/

Once you know it, do the following:

    - Open MobileTerminal
    - Type: login root
    - Hit return
    - Put in your password (default is: alpine - unless you changed it)
    - Hit return
    - Type: cd /private/var/stash/Applications.xxxx/iBlank.app
    - Hit return
    - Type: chmod 755 *
    - Hit return
    - Type: cd Files
    - Hit return
    - Type: chmod 755 *
    - Hit return
    - Close MobileTerminal and reboot your iPhone. You need to reboot the entire device, not just respring.

You should then see the iBlank icon once your iPhone boots back up.

thats cause you have a 3GS...lol you have 150% more processor then i do and double the application ram. i cant afford the slow down of winterboard on the regular 3G. but if i has an S, i would probably use it.

No, I understand that. When I had my 3G though I had Winterboard and really had no performance issues. The only issue I ran into was that it would crash into Safe Mode sometimes but other than that it was okay for me.

A lot of people with the 3G are taking the SSH approach and just use SSH to theme the physical directories instead of using Winterboard. It works, but it's a pain if you ever want to switch/restore themes...
