How does iTunes install apps?
I was hoping someone could detail me the process in which iTunes installs apps on iPhones - from hitting the "sync" button to when it's done. I specifically need to know where it copies the application files to (a temporary location, I'd assume).
It's because when I was installing TomTom, I accidentally unplugged my sync cable, and the sync was interrupted. It left 500MB of useless data on my iPhone and I need to get rid of it...

Look at /user/applications (in your iphone using a iphone browser) (u need to jailbreak it for that)
I think it's there

In most cases you will need to restore to get this space back. iTunes most likely sees this as "other" and won't touch it again.

I was afraid of that. I guess I'll have to do it that way.
I already checked. I have 26 App Store apps and 26 folders in there. So, I was thinking there was another temporary location that iTunes dumped those files before it would install, and move them to the Applications folder.
Of course, another possibility, if I had more space, would be to just try to install it again. Then, maybe iTunes would just overwrite the old ones, and I'd gain the space. But, I guess that's what I get for being cheap and only buying a 4GB.Last edited by weirdo81622; 08-28-2009 at 10:53 AM.
