backup help please

Hi all, Im new to this forum.
Can someone help me please. I did a format of my laptop that had my backup files for my iphone on it.
I then did a restore sometime after that on my iphone only to find i have lost all.
Even all my applications i downloaded have gone together with my music.
Can anyone help me please.
