I'm new to this forum! So sorry if this is not in the correct section!

I recently jailbroke my iPhone 3G (i'm running 3.0 on it) and I wanted to know if its possible to have a different slider image for only when your phone is charging?

Nope, there are only 3 slider images. Unlock, power, and answer. I guess if you write your own program to do so, then it might work.

So your saying the unlock screen slider is always going to be the same as the slider when your charging your phone in the charge screen?

Downlaod "Winterboard" through Cydia (as long as you've jailbroken). Go into Winterboard and select the files you want to run.
