Has anyone tried uploading the 3GS firmware onto the 3G? Is this even possible?

I'm fairly new to modding iPhone FW and would like to know if there is some way of viewing/editing the files without putting them on the iPhone first? Some kind of IPSW veiwer or something?

The same way you can put a Ferrari engine on golf kart is the same way u can do what u suggested....but I think someone is copying over some 3Gs files to the 3G ipsw

Thinking about it, I guess you are right, as the hardware of the 3GS is significantly different to the 3G, should really have thought of that first!

On my second point tho, is there a way of viewing the IPSW files without putting them on the phone first? That way it would be possible to compare the 3G and 3GS firmwares and see the differences between them.

If you are using a mac, right click and select "show content menu" and you have all of the files that the ipsw file contains.

Anyway to get inside the dmg files in the ipsw? They appear to be secured with a password of sorts...

Yeah, we need to wait for the JB. That's part of what a jailbreak does: decrypting the DMG's in an IPSW.
