Disable switch to iPod when using car remote/controller

I have a car aux in/charger combo (specifically the Griffin AutoPilot) and when I hit play/pause, forward or previous on the AutoPilot my iPhone jumps to the ipod app and displays the now playing section. I would love if there were a way to stop it from doing that. Any ideas?... When you use the iPhone headphones as a controller for the iPod functions it happens in the background without switching to the iPod app. This is the behavior I want for my AutoPilot. Thanks!
