Apps Running at Startup
I have just ssh into my iPhone and at /System/Library/LaunchDameons there are hell a lot items with names like com.apple.blah.blah.
I can understand a few apps like lockdown as i have installed it. But cant understand a few so plz help me understand.
com.apple.itunesstored.plist (What if i make it not run at startup??)
com.apple.fairplayd.plist(whats this??)
com.apple.locationd.plist(is this getting my location using GPS??)iPhone 4

wouldnt do it
lockdownd is actually the process that verifies activation..
I wouldnt mess with those as they can easily crash into a point of needing to restore. If your phones slow or using battery quickly i would stay away from springboard mods as they r the most common culprit.

*com.apple.fairplayd.plist: Apple Fairplay DRM-Any protected song or other form of media purchased from the iTunes Store with iTunes is encoded with FairPlay.FairPlay digitally encrypts AAC audio files and prevents users from playing these files on unauthorized computers
*com.apple.locationd.plist: Your gps location on the map
*com.apple.itunesstored.plist: Your itunes account

@dajawoo: Do you know if fairplayed runs if no DRM music is installed? Because except for 1 or 2, all of my music files are either mp3 rips or DRM-free iTunes Plus downloads.

I have about 300 songs on my iphone&also itunes. All of them are mp3&downloaded from internet, not via itunes. And fairplayed is running on my phone. It only controls the songs which are dowloaded from itunes&looks if songs are drm protected or not...

So how do you stop these processes from running on startup?
I would also like to stop BTServer from running, but none of my edits to com.apple.BTServer.plist have prevented this from starting.

If only it were as easy as unchecking them to startup that would be nice lol

Those processes use very little system memory, don't mess with them! If you're looking for stuff, that occupies memory, check out how much stuff you have installed, that is loaded into Springboard, using Mobile Substrate (Quickgold, SBSettings, Stack, Winterboard, Dock, Backgrounder, Notifier, Icon reflection or other mods etc...). Those probably are your witches, leave those system processes alone!

BTServer itunesstored fairplayed and pretty much everything that u mentioned except locationd is dangerous to remove and will result in a restore.
also get rid of winterboard. you will see a biiiig difference.
additionally, you can start uninstalling mods that you don't use. These take up tons of ram.Last edited by Fhsjaagshs; 04-17-2011 at 08:23 PM. Reason: Added info

They are there for a reason, require small amounts of memory, consume few resources, are active only when really needed. The best (and safest) solution is to do nothing.
