Changing Emoji on 2.2

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the code that the Emoji relates too, so it would recognize the : - ) or : ) etc etc that are sent and received?
Is there a keyboard localization file(s) to adjust?

Only wondering as other phone's don't support the Emoji code.
