beginner questions-help

When I ssh I am curious do you have to change EACH icon or can you change everything at once. If you can change everything at once can you explain how? Ive look through these boards and it has taught me sooo much but I am stuck now and not seeing the answers to thee basic q's

You need to use an app called "Winterboard" to theme your phone (change the icons). It will do them all at once.

once you have that installed you can look into how to create your own winterboard theme and then you should be all set to go

Oh I have that but...

when i use that I dont understand what to check etc etc. so I checked here and there and changed a few things but it never changed Everything. I thought I had to do that through ssh

^If you wanna add to a theme in Winterboard then yes, you will need to SSH into the phone and goto Applications/Themes

Add the icons, etc you want in the corresponding folders and bam...good to go.

There is 1 folder for all the icons, so you can add them all at once.

it would be better if you let us know EXACTLY what your trying to do. do you have your own icons you want to use? are you trying to install someone elses theme? let us know so we can help

sorry, im really just trying to understand this. I want to change the whole theme including icons. I see a few here that I want to use. I'm not sure how to do that. I have a few in my winterboard but when i select them(by checks) they only change the background and not the icons...

no need to apologize were here to help. what are some of the themes you are applying? and checking? the checks work like this.....whatever theme is at the top gets the most applied...whatever it doesnt apply..the next one does...so on an so forth. so move the one you want the most up to the top also if you want some help upload all the themes in a zip file so i can take a look and see if everything is A OK with the theme itself.

the best way to do, and that is probably the first expierence of mine was to download a Complete theme and SSH into at and see how each icon or things are called and located. Example, install Mobile Vista from Cydia. That's a complete theme. And it will be perfect for you if you wanna change everything. But you know... Things have their ups and downs, i really do not recommend Mobile Vista. Or you can download mine. That's a real cool one. Better vista. And if you have photoshop you can just change the icons, i mean you can change every .png as you would like... If you want my Theme lemme know. But it was a hard work tho! but I love it, and people said they have never seen one like mine lol.

ohh and I forgot to tell you one thing. You need FiveIconDock installed from cydia. and my theme will look fine. i think you'll figure out what to do with that. and yeah as you have asked how to change every icon at once, you see that Icons folder in my theme? you can add icons in there. But make sure you name it right. To name it right, have your phone next to yourself, you see the names there under the icons on your phone? Example: "Cydia" it's called Cydia on your phone. So you need to draw a small icon (size doesn't matter unless it is bigger than 320*480) and name it "Cydia.png" pictures have to be saved as .png format. you can use photoshop. If you want Photoshop CS4, I got the Portable. Pretty smooth and fast. you can lemme know. i can give you the link to download.
