Default SwirlyMMS - Can I use WiFi?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I swear I have checked everywhere though, and cannot find a solid answer to this.

I have checked to make sure all my settings are correct, and when I try opening up a MMS that a friend sent, because it does say "New MMS received" I click on it but it says

    Failure

You dont have an active GPRS/EDGE/3G connection for the moment!

I checked my APN settings, and everything,

    T-Mobile (USA)
    MMSC: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS-APN: wap.voicestream.com
    User: empty
    Pass: empty
    APN: epc.tmobile.com

And I rebooted my phone, but no luck. Do I -really- need to get a data plan in order to view MMS's? Is this my problem? No actual way I can use WiFi? I could have sworn I once say someone say it worked with WiFi.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I am fairly sure you have to use a data plan, because the of the APN settings.
