Change iPhone 3G battery icon

I'm speaking about the big battery icon, not the one in the top bar.

I've seen that in the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app there are the following files

BatteryBackground.png
BatteryBG_1.png
BatteryBG_2.png
BatteryBG_3.png
BatteryBG_4.png
BatteryBG_5.png
BatteryBG_6.png
BatteryBG_7.png
BatteryBG_8.png
BatteryBG_9.png
BatteryBG_10.png
BatteryBG_11.png
BatteryBG_12.png
BatteryBG_13.png
BatteryBG_14.png
BatteryBG_15.png
BatteryBG_16.png
BatteryBG_17.png
BatteryFill.png
BatteryReflectionMask.png

that should be normal .png files. Problem is that if I download them and try to edit them, the files are unreadable...

Any clue?
