Anyway to show album cover or when connected to ipod/iphone accessory?

I have ipod connector with my aftermarket stereo on the car (Eclipse cd7200mkii).
If i connect the iphone or ipod to it, ipod and iphone gets locked and lose controlability. It has to be done over the headunit.
When it is iphone connected to it, it allows me to control everything else but just ipod mode.
iphone displays accessory attatched with ipod logo if i go to ipod mode.
and It just shows battery charging meter when the screen is locked.
I am wondering this....by doing some file modification on the iphone to avoid get lost controlability, wouldn't I be able to control the iphone through iphone when It is connected to the car(or other ipod accessory), or if it is impossible, at least display the album cover?
Please help!
