Is there a way to make custom ringtones on an iphone that is unlocked for t-mobile without using itunes [ive hurd my phone will be toast if it is used with itunes] using ver 1.1.1?

Yes. Install the MECCA patch from my installer repo (http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo) in unlockthatiphone category then search the forums for "Mecca ringtones"
