Icon labels

This is a very simple question, I'm sure it has a very simple answer: How does one change (not remove) the labels of the icons on the springboard?

Just for info, I'm using now the SMSD app for enhanced SMS. I think it's great. I want to place it on the spot of the original one (that I can do) but, I also want to replace de "SMSD" label for the stock "Text". Thanks.

With the LocalizedApplicationNames.strings file located in system/library/coreservices/springboard/english. Change the extension to .plist, convert it with this http://140.124.181.188/~khchung/cgi-bin/plutil.cgi. Get the string for smsd from the info.plist in the smsd app folder.

Thanks, but this file only shows the stock apps strings, not the installed via Installer. Since this is one of those apps, do you know how or where to acces them?

Yea, I said how in my last sentence. Look at the how the apple apps are listed, then go into the info.plist within each 3rd party app folder and get the string you need to add to the localizednames file.

Just rename SMSD.app to Text.app.

SMSD.app is a folder, I cannot rename a folder on Fugu, nor can I download it to my desktop as a folder to rename it. What do you suggest?

From Windows, rename with iPhoneBrowser.

From MobileTerminal, use the mv Unix command.

From an SSH program, use the mv Unix command.

Help me please Jasper44!
i want to remove the docked icon labels. I have 3.0 without winterboard.

I'd went to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/Spanish.lproj

and copy the file LocalizedApplicationNames.strings to my desktop.
then i converted to xml and later edit the xml with notepad++

the i'd delete the name of the app inside <string> :
<key>com.apple.MobileSMS</key>
<string></string>

but when i replace the file, the names are now in english! when my languaje is spanish

i'd also modify the info.plist in /Applications/MobileMusicPlayer.app
an clear the value in
key>UIRoleDisplayName</key>
<string></string> (Ipod before...)

also (and finally)

there is a info.plist in /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app
with this sentence

<key>DockedIconLabelStyle</key>
<string>/*font-family: monospace;*/ font-size: 0px; color: white</string>

I'd modify the withe value to red, transparent and nothing.
can anyone give some clarity in this subjet?
i'm really lost!
