Customized iPhone 3G! No Jailbreak Required!
It's been a while since I was active in the Development Community or IRC
channels so some of you may not know me, others may remember me
from a few IRC Channels I helped out in or projects I helped with.
I fell I'll and only just recently have been regaining my health, so I'm back
for the most part.
Anyways I know you don't want to hear about my life and just want to know
how to mod your 3G iPhone
So "Make it Mine" as well as "Customize" Themes work on non Jailbroken iPhone
3G's but there's a trick to get it all to work. And I need others to test this
and report back with feedback as you really can't go with the results of just
one person.
Now I want to express that this could cause some loss of data, and you
may be forced to restore your iPhone. So I take no responsibility for any
loss of data or anything else that happens as a result of testing this method.
REQUIRED:
iPhone 3G
iPhone 1st Generation, Jailbroken with Customize or possibly Summerboard even.
iTunes 7.7
OPTIONAL: Make it Mine - Available via the Installer.app or Cydia Installer
HOW TO:
It's rather simple really.
Just sync & backup everything from your 1st Generation iPhone thats been
customized and then, take a iPhone 3G that has never been synced
with your system and when prompted by iTunes choose Restore Backup.
(If you have synced the iPhone 3G, just restore it and re-activate)
The iPhone 3G should now have all of the information and themes
that the 1st Generation had. If you changed your carrier name using MIM
(Make it Mine) then that too should have changed.
That's about it, I know it seems a little quick and dirty but I wanted to
get the word out asap.

P.S. I'll try to have a video up soon, since I know pics are worthless
P.P.S Sorry I meant to post this in General >.<Last edited by viral_dna; 07-18-2008 at 04:57 PM. Reason: Meant to post this in General, sorry.

hmmm wonder if this could lead to an exploit or something. Since it appears that itunes is putting back certain files that we put on during a jailbreak...hmmmm

hmmmm..that doesnt sound right...i thought iTunes only backs up...contacts, music, calendar, videos...whatever tabs it has in iTunes...that's about it.
Can someone confirm? i highly doubt that it would work...

The problem lies in that even if the themes were in fact backed up on the new phone... neither Summerboard or Customize has been ported to 2.0 yet so you would have no program to switch between backed up themes. Nice try though.

Not wot he said
He's saying that if you back up a customized iphone then use the back up on a new 3G it will override certain files replaces images and things with that of the 1st gen phone that was customized.
HE did NOT say that it will send programs like customize or MIM to your 3GBeing an i can be a lot of pressure. you have to live right up to the small point.

yep some people on macrumors forums used caption crunch to change the time and carrier and it does work.. i think the other one didnt even need to restore and that whole process..
i think this may lead to an exploit..
