Default How to: Workaround foreign characters

Just wanted to share something for all the foreign users/hackers of the iPhone.
I am danish and one of my big concerns was that the iphone has no scandinavian characters. I found a fix to turn the auto-correction of but nothing on hacking the keyboard.

Well. After a few hours when i finally got the phone, I realized.
The auto correction started guessing names from my address book with scandinavian characters in it. Even though they are nowhere in the keyboard to be found.

So now whenevet i miss a commenly used word with one of the three scandinavian letters i add it to my contacts and voila... the auto correction suggests it when i'm typing.

Of course there are limitations. Two or three letter words won't "erase" the english word they think you're tying to write, but i fix that with an extra letter. Say I want to write så (meaning then in danish, hence very common) If I try, the auto correction thinks I want to write as, when i hit s and a.
So I've added såa to the addressbook and just delete the last letter.

I know it's not smooth but it works well with long words.

Hope that someone can use it. I've included this and more information in one of the first all danish blogs on the iPhone.

BTW: I've created one contact where I write words as the first name. Just separated by a space. I've also done a few like months, days and colors.

If the letter you want aren't on the keyboard, how do you get in in the addressbook to begin with ?

I'm guessing he's using his Mac/Windows machine to create the contacts (where there is much more robust support for foreign languages than in the iPhone's OS). The contacts then sync over to the iPhone.

Quite clever, if you ask me!

foreign characters are included in all iphones since update 1.1.1
to access them simply open the keyboard on any application
and press and keep pressed the key most similar to the foreign
character and a second submenu will appear above the letter simply choose
the letter you want to use

Well, not all letters are included. I am trying to find ways to hack into the keyboard and add the following letters ħ, ġ, ż and ċ.
