Block EDGE without Services App?

Is there a way to block EDGE without using Services? I was thinking of a way to maybe modify the actual network connection to EDGE or something so its permanently blocked unless you restore a firmware. The reason I want this is because Services seems to turn EDGE back on if and only if I currently have edge off and I execute the services App and close out of it. Then I would have to go back in turn EDGE off then exit out. Thanks. Im sure the people who complained about services app not working for them will find a fix after this
