change functionality of side buttons?

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has been able to change the functionality of the side buttons. I want to use one of them to take a picture, and the other as a home button. I read someone was asking back in July about changing them in iPod mode and noone had an answer, but I'm looking to change them globally which should be much simpler.

Any ideas?

you meen the volume bottons? I see your point, but then volume changing would be a bit of a pain.

Yes, I'd be looking at changing the volume buttons. I really have no need to change the volume on a regular basis, particularly not from the side buttons. So, I'd like the put them to use doing something that would actually be of benefit.

Im sure this could be done, the question is if there is an option in a plist file somewhere or is it harcoded. I think the latter
