So after updating my phone to 1.1.2 I have a blank blue square instead of an E icon by my carrier. This is annoying for obvious reasons. As I do not know of anyone else having this problem I'll solve it for myself, I just need to know where the icon is located so i can swap it with an older version.

I think the issue might be that im in a gprs area and it appears in the images that there is an icon for that too in 1.1.2. Because I cannot see it I cannot confirm that it is supposed to be a blue square, but this is what Im assuming.

Delete the FSO and Default .png files for EDGE_ON and GPRS_ON, then reboot iPhone... should be gone... looks so much better without that blue square.

if interested, i also made some "G" icons for GPRS which replace the ugly blue and white blank icons.
the "G" icons resemble the original blue-background and white-background "E" icon.
download them here:

Yeh, I can confirm that the Blue icon is not a fault, it just means it's not EDGE, I have had mine switch between white block, blue block, and blue block with E in 5 minutes.
Also, how do I go about editing the png from the iphone, I'm under windows and neither preview, nor Photoshop could open them. Whats the deal?

in 1.1.2 the blue block means you are not using edge, it either turns another colour or displays E if you are using edge, it is to do with knowing when you are connected or not

I thought the blue block was GPRS? No block means no GPRS or EDGE, and Blue block with E means EDGE and GPRS available? Something like that, either way, i don't care, and i'm doing my best to disable any data bearing technology other than WiFi. THe bastards charged me £110 (vodafone) for downloading 15Mb by accident (the maps thing) on my N95.

shouldn't be a problem
