Hello,

I recently got another iPhone 3g due to my previous one being broke. The owner of the iPhone before tried to unlock it and now the iPhone has no signal.I've tried many different ways to get this to work but it just says waiting for activation and doesnt seem to do anything.

Ive tried:

Full format
Restore in iTunes
Jailbreak then restore
Restore network settings

Now I read somewere that it could be something to do with the sim card not being activated on this iPhone , Yes it is a pay monthly sim card but could this really be the problem. I'm running 3.12 firmware if that makes a difference

Any advice on this issue is really appreciated as I desperate to get this phone working

I need help. I don't know what happened. I have a 2g iphone on 3.0. It was working great. I went to sync to itunes and it states that I have a 3.30 GB capacity. ???? Is there any way to fix this? It clearly says 8 GB on the back cover and it said 7.x GB available before. ANYBODY??????

Battery drain on 3.1.2

Well, after about 3 days of work my iPhone is back to normal. I upgraded to 3.1.2, unlocked it, jail broke, installed most of my stuff back and restored most of my missing files.

But, I seem to notice a much higher then previous battery drain. My phone took about 40-45% of battery life just in full stand by over night. That's a bit much, ain't it?

I looked at all my running processes and everything seems normal and nothing out of the ordinary.

Any suggestions? Keeping my iPhone plugged in 24x7 is kinda lame.

Previous to this when I was on 2.1.? the phone lasted all day just fine with fairly heavy use, but all the sudden this.

File trans fer questions for text and pdf

I have finally figured out the winscp program for wifi transfer. I wanted to transfer some micro/word text and pdf files to the iphone and use quickoffice to acess and read them. is this ok to do without the mobileme account and idisk system. i do not know where to transfer the file to on the iphone (what storage file on the phone). my winscp only showed some of the apps, not the ones from other sources than app store.
hope this qustion makes sense.
Where do i put the files on the phone for access in the phone, and can i store them on the phone for reference when needed?

Some RockApp thoughts

Hi. I recently noticed an update for zodttd's snes4iphone on Cydia, which I already had installed and working on my 3GS for some time and ran just about any ROM I threw at it just fine.

Perhaps I should have read the notes a little closer, as when the update installed, I could see another app being installed called RockApp (Rock Your Phone.) So, being curious about what was changed in snes4iphone, I opened it, only to be greated with a login that was not required to identify yourself to Rock App. Not knowing much about RockApp, I decided for the time being to uninstall it, but it turned out doing so always removed snes4iphone - "What the hell ??!", I thought.

Now, I am all for progress and seeing newer, better things. Cydia is great IMHO, but theres always room for improvement. There appear to be many great aspects to RockApp, such as speed, able to keep track and backup what you've installed. But, what seems to worry me is that, much like Valve Software's Steam service, paid programs seem to require some sort of authentication before you can use them, even programs like the snes emulator which otherwise requires no active Internet connection.

Like Steam, this imposes external control over some software that you wish to run, and this is something I am always weary of. I always believed this was the biggest problem with Steam, that it was forced on players of Valve's games as a requirement when it should have been a suppliment - there when you want and need it, but not if you don't. It is even required for single player games that otherwise need no 'net connection.

I really hope RockApp does not end up becoming the same sort of thing - a mode of control over software. Maybe I've been using coputers for too damn long, but I prefer to be in control of what I run on a given computer I own.

I welcome any comments, corrections and other thoughts on anything I have put forth here. I harbor no ill will towards the authors of RockApp, zodttd, or any other author. I applaud them and others for many of their contributions.

Probably not many will understand my problem. I have a 7 year old,A928 notebook called a IBUDDIE and made by ECS.It is pent4,1g ram,running XP sp2. I have tried finding a usb 2.0 driver that won't cause XP to blue screen and reboot when i plug my 3g 8gb iphone into Itunes. Any ideas? I would prefer to hear from someone who has gone thru this with the same computer ...but what the hell...anybody could try.Thanks

Stack Help

I installed Stack for the first time, and didn't want any of the default apps in the stack so I removed them, now I can't add anything to the stack, did I screw it up? I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling but after the reinstall the stack is still empty and still can't add to it, as if some setting is left over from the previous installtion. It's driving me crazy.

I have iPhone 3G 3.1.2 firmware. I just ran Blackrain & snow. I've always been annoyed that the Outlook mail feature on my phone is really basic & not very user friendly. As a result I rarely have my mail pushed to my cell. It seems after I got my 2 work email accounts up & running on my phone the messages come through fine, but there is no ways to:
-File mail into multiple folders.
-Create new permanent Folders.
-Create rules or filters.

I pretty much have : Inbox, Sent & Trash.
I used a nice 3rd party app Ibis mail & it has a great full featured email system. But like all apps every time I update firmware I lose it & the setting. My brother got a 3GS about 3 months ago. His iphone Outlook has a lot of different folders ect..

-Did I set up my iphone Outlook wrong at 1st?
-Is the 3GS use of Outlook that much better than 3G?
-Are there any ways to enhance my iphone Outlook features/ service on my cell?

MyWi not working correctly 3G 3.1.2

I installed MyWi and everything seems fine, except that when my computer sees the connection and tries to connect it shows local only! It identifies the connection correctly, but I can not go online...

The iPhone has the blue border and MyWi shows an up and down speed, but the computer will not connect to the internet! Additionally the only way to "stop" the tethering is too turn the iphone off and back on. Unless I do that, the border remains blue and MyWi shows up and down speeds even though there is no connection to the puter....

Any suggestions?

Possible bug with Itunes?

Hi all,

Ive been having problems with my Itunes Syncing with my iphone.

Whenever it starts to sync my photos ( 5000 + ).. it crashes.. CPU at 100%...

After 2 days of trying to figure out i deleted the Ipod Photo Cache directory and retried the sync... It then synced fine.

It seems that if the sync is stopped during a sync the directory is created and then the next time when it trys to start.. It freezes.. i delete the directory and its fine..

Has anyone seen this before? im on the latest version of itunes...

Multitasking without Backgrounder?

i just got a new iphone 3gs 3.1.2 with my server being Telstra and just found out telstra does not support tethering. I have read many forums but they are all dated a few months back.
Is it possible to tether with telstra by downgrading my phone to 3.0 and if so a link with a step by step guide. Or do i have to jailbreak my phone ???

Battery case not working? :/

Hi guys!

I bought myself a Mophie battery case 2 months ago. It has been working without trouble all time, but doing this week, it stopped working?
The case charges as normal, the indicator lights show up, and the iPhone vibrates & shows the charging battery when i plug it in...
But still, the iPhone does not gain any battery? It still loses as it normally would?

My iPhone is jailbroken and have been so since before i got that case, but i was thinking if a new cydia app or something could have effected it? Or what can have gone wrong since it charges normally through usb cable? :)

Ps. it's an iPhone 3g[s] on 3.0.1

I've restored my Iphone 3G 3.1.2 about five times now and Itunes still prompts me that it cannot read it and I should restore it to factory settings. Before this I've had no problems, I unlocked it using blacksn0w and jailbroke with blackra1n. I can do all of that again, the slate is wiped clean but Itunes still won't recognize it. I've rebooted and even tried different USB ports. Help?

Rotation Lock Issue

3G on 3.0.1. Installed rotation lock - it doesn't give me the option to select preferred orientation (holding down the button in sbsettings). If I enable lock - it locks portrait. It will also lock landscape if I am already in an app. But once I shut the app down it defaults back to locking portrait. Any ideas? Reinstalled once. Thanks!

To all you complaining about pwnage not being as easy as blackra1n.... this is how we used to jailbreak 1.1 firmware and add the equivalent of cydia. :D
(and this was easier than 1.0 fw by far. Who remembers the yellow triangle of death? :D)

Using your favorite browser, download the v1.0.2 software from this location. You may need to rename to .ipsw if it comes as a .zip
Back in iTunes, hold Option on the Mac or Shift on the PC while clicking Restore. Navigate to the software you downloaded and select it.
The phone will restore, but it will fail. This is normal.
Your iPhone should show a yellow triangle. Run Nullriver's AppTapp. It should bring you back to the Activation step on the phone and show an error in the application. Disregard the error.
Run AppTapp again and it should succeed.
If not using an AT&T SIM, use INdependence to activate your iPhone. That's it!
Create Symlink
If you haven't already, install Nullriver's AppTapp
Go to iTunes Store - Conceited Software in iPhone's Safari. Tap "Yes" to add to Installer
Plug iPhone in and open iTunes. Make sure it's recognized before proceeding
Using Installer, install "Trip1Prepz" located under "System"
Upgrade to v1.1.1
In iTunes click "Upgrade" and not Restore. Restoring will ruin our progress.
Once upgraded to 1.1.1, close iTunes
Jailbreak
Download iPHUC and friends from Rapidshare
Extract the contents so that iphuc, fstab, and iphonefs are all on the Desktop
If you don't have libreadline, download it and extract the zip to your Macintosh HD
Open Terminal.app located in Applications>Utilities
Type cd ~/Desktop and hit return
Type ./iphuc and hit return
Type getfile /dev/rdisk0s1 iphonefs/rdisk0s1 314572800 and hit return. This will take about five minutes so grab something to drink in the meantime. Once complete, there will be a file named "rdisk0s1" in your "iphonefs" folder
Add .dmg to the end of the file. It should end up being rdisk0s1.dmg
Double click the file to mount it
Open the newly mounted Snowbird3A109a.UserBundle drive and open the "etc" folder. Replace the fstab file inside the "etc" folder with the supplied fstab file.
Unmount the image
Back in Terminal, assuming that you've kept iPHUC up and running, type putfile iphonefs/rdisk0s1.dmg /dev/rdisk0s1 and hit return. This will take another minute or so. When it's finished, reboot the iPhone. You're jailbroken!
Install SSH
Download iNdependence from its Google code page here
Open iNdependence and go to the "SSH" tab
Click "Install SSH/SFTP/SCP" and follow the instructions. It will ask to reboot the iPhone several times
When you're done, SSH into your iPhone from the Terminal by typing ssh -l root your.iphones.ip.address. When asked the password is alpine. If it gives a fuss, you may need to remove the "known_hosts" file from /Users/YourUser/.ssh/
Accept the key by typing yes and hitting return if asked. Leave the window open.
Open your favorite FTP (I recommend CyberDuck) client and log in using your iPhone's IP address, root for the username and alpine for the password. Make sure to use SFTP and not plain old FTP
If you're not already there, navigate to /var/root and rename Media to Media_sym
Rename MediaBackup to Media. Keep the FTP and SSH windows open.
Open iTunes and allow it to activate. If it doesn't recognize your phone, reboot it and/or restart iTunes.
Install AppTapp
Download Nullriver's AppTapp
Right click or control click AppTapp Installer and click "Show Package Contents". Navigate to Contents>Resources
Using the FTP application, copy Installer.app from the Resources folder into the Applications folder on your iPhone
Back in the terminal, SSH into your iPhone again (if you're not already), give the comand chmod -Rf +x /Applications/ and hit return.
Slide to unlock your iPhone then type /Applications/Installer.app/Installer and hit return to launch Installer.
After AppTapp opens, press control+c to close it
Open Safari on iPhone and navigate to iTunes Store - Conceited Software
Tap yes to add it to Installer
Back in terminal, using ssh, type /Applications/Installer.app/Installer and hit return to launch Installer again.
Install Trip1PogoStick located under the "System" category to enable scrolling and applications.
When you're done, reboot the iPhone and close all your windows. You now have AppTapp.

Just bought a iphone 3gs16. So far so good :)

I have itunes at work pc and itunes installed on my home pc.

I synced itunes my home pc first and worked fine. When i got to work and tried to sync just my Calendar and my Photos it gave me an error message saying that I will replace all existing photos if i decide to sync with my work pc.

Is it possible to just add my work photos to the existing collection I have synced up from home?

so i just got my iphone unlocked/jailbroken and i've been going through cydia and downloading a whole bunch of mods to make my phone the way i want. however, now my phone is super slow and i don't have enough memory to run a lot of my apps. now i know the packages i really want and i have a ton that i don't need any more. so i'm wondering if i can just go through and uninstall everything that i don't recognize as something i want or if there are system files and stuff i need to make sure not to delete. if someone could at least answer if i need to be careful or not. and if someone could come up with a list of what is necessary and whats not that would be even better

I'm using an iPhone for T-mobile unlocked with black ra1n. When I send a text it Brings that text to the top of the list of texts...normal. When I receive the text it drops back down to the original point at which i sent it. For instance, If i texted "gabe" for the first time three days ago....any time he texts me i have to scroll through all my texts till i get to three days ago to read his.

I removed the sms.db and rebooted the phone to see if possibly it was corrupted but to no success.

Any suggestions?

Deleting App via Winscp

I couldn't remove them through iPhone and decided to use Winscp. I went into my Applications folder and deleted the "folder" that I made with the categories app. However, I went back into my iPhone and the "folder" is still there... Hello good people!

First, sorry for bad English. (I am from Norway)

I am new at this forum and I am stuck with my Iphone 2G 16GB.

I have replaced the whole phone accept the motherboard.
(Digitizer with antenna and everything, OEM battery, black back housing with flex cable(audio jack, on/off, volume etc..), BUT
now it's time for charging and the battery wont charge. The phone show's the charging ikon (lightning) in the right upper corner, but the battery still got 20 % left. :(

So im asking you guys, what is wrong or what can I do?
I have tried to restore it, but this does'nt help. Also I have tried the on/off and home button for 8seconds but this eather helps.:confused:

What to do?! I am very new at this so please, help me asap!!:(

My friends tell me that it does not show I'm online when I am. I am aware of manually going online there in the app. When I'm in the app it does say that I am online but apparently I am not...PLEASE can someone help me? I have uploaded the newest version of FB too. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, but still nothing....any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance!

Hi All,

Just jailbroke my iPhone mostly to use 3g Unrestrictor to download iPlayer stuff, which I found out didn't work, so I discovered ipl2iph, but I'm having problems getting it to work properly. I keep getting the Error: no program identifier found.

I definitely have all the correct things installed and I know the iplayer-dl works as I managed to get a program and watched it download manually after typing the PID address eg iplayer-dl b00p1lgb

So first question.. does anyone know where iplayer-dl puts the file? I've been using iPhone Explorer to search for it but no luck.

Second question... does anyone know why i cant get ipl2iph working?

I got a brand new iphone. I had the connect to itunes screen, so I connect to my pc, and then open up itunes. I think I clicked the cancel button or something, and right after that, my iphone came up a message showing the phone is activated.

I thought itunes will force me to activate through att site, but it didn't. I can use the phone and make calls no problem. Why is that?

A member asked about this earlier so I decided I'd post the topic over here. This is not my work, only the instructions from a member of another forum. This requires basic computer knowledge to do, and if you follow the instructions carefully, it works great. Essentially you are making your iPhone think that it's syncing with your main computer by doing a little hex editing. I recommend that you set your iTunes to manually manage music and not to automatically sync so you don't end up overwriting everything when you go to your other computer. This is awesome if you travel with a laptop but sync to your desktop computer, and want to add videos or something to your iPhone while on the road. It happened to me once while on vacation where I wanted to add a CD I just got to my iPhone and listen to it on the drive home, but couldn't because my iTunes library wanted to erase everything just so I could sync one CD.

Anyway, here are the steps. Again, this is not my work, I am merely passing this along. Enjoy!

On the "new sync computer" you want to sync with, backup �iTunes Music Library.xml� and �iTunes Music Library� (Tunes Music Library.itl on a PC) to a safe location as the hack involves modifying these files.
You will also need the following programs: a Text editor (Notepad should serve you fine) and a Hex editor (you can checkout UltraEdit or any other Hex Editor).
Step 1:
On your regular "regular sync computer" open �iTunes Music Library.xml� with a text editor and search for the following text "Library Persistent ID"; you should ideally find it at the top of the xml file. We are basically looking for the persistent id of your iTunes library. It appears to be the ID that tells iTunes; if you are syncing with regular computer or a different computer.
In the screen shot below for example the value 8B6C633F7DACB74B in between the tags is the persistent id of the iTunes library on the "regular sync computer" . Copy this entry and close the file.

Step 2:
As you might have guessed it, you had copied the value of the Library Persistent ID to replace the value in the iTunes Music Library.xml of the "new sync computer".
Open the �iTunes Music Library.xml� with a text editor, search for the text "Library Persistent ID" again and copy the value of the Library Persistent ID within the tags.
In the screen shot below for example the value 0E958526D15C67FA in between the tags is the persistent id of the iTunes library on the "new sync computer".

After copying the value, replace the value within the tags with the value that you had copied in Step 1.
Save and close this file.

Step 3:
Open �iTunes Music Library� (iTunes Library.itl file on PC) using the Hex Editor on the "new sync computer".
Select �Replace� from the Edit menu. Make sure �Hex� matching is selected (not ASCII). In �Find What� enter the ID you took a note of in Step 2. In "Replace With", enter the ID you copied in Step 1. Choose Replace All, there should be one match.

Save this file and close it.
That's it, you are done. Now start iTunes on the "new sync computer" and plug in your iPhone. When you select �Manually manage music and videos� you will no longer be prompted to erase your data, nor will the files on your iPhone be grayed out.
If you have any issues with iTunes on the "new sync computer" then replace the files you had backed up prior to modifying them.

Ive searched for hours on end.

Ive tried most of the fixes I can find for enabling MMS on my phone. Ive used GEOs unlock, and changed my carrier settings to one ive read to have worked from multiple people.

I had the thought that its not on my end on AT&T, but I dont understand how the 2G users would have it enabled so I guess im at a loss for what I could do. I have a JB iPhone 3GS FW 3.1.2 and a Windows PC that I use iTunes 9 on. My problem is that every time I sync my photos iTunes show that the photos have completed the sync process & should be on my phone. That is so not the case. The albums are missing on my phone. I have searched everywhere. When I search with iPhone explorer, I am able to find the Thumbnails and full resolution photos, but why cant I see them on my iphone? I have tried everything from deleting the cache & all photos from my phone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have seen many docks on ebay. Some mentioned will not work with 3gs, some mention will work, some didn't mention at all for 3gs.

I had one before that seller mentioned will not work with 3gs, but I opened up, it's simply electric extension and makes the plug stand up. So I don't understand why it will not with 3gs.

I'm probably going to buy a couple of new phones today. One is a 3gs and the other is a 3g. My question is, does the 3g not have native video recording outside of Cycorder? I know the 3gs does, but I always assumed that the 3g did too by way of firmware upgrade.

Can the 3g do GPS if I buy one of the GPS apps from the appstore? Or is GPS only for the 3gs?

If the 3g can't do either I might have to rethink my purchase. Well Cycorder works fine as a replacement for native video recording but the GPS might be a deal breaker.

Categories 2.2.7 Games Folder Help

I have iPod Touch 2G running 3.0 FW jailbreak.

I was first using Categories 2.2.4 and when I initially installed it I created a few folders, one of them named Games. I noticed when I added apps to the Games folder the folder wouldn't show up so I went back and renamed it to Gaming and everything was fine.

Now I need that folder to be named Games for a theme I'm trying to run. I went back and renamed it Games and once again it disappeared from my SpringBoard.

I've installed Categories 2.2.7 and deleted the Games/Gaming folder and re-booted.

When I create a Games folder once again it will not show up. If I go to Search it will show up and I can go into it, but it won't show up on the SB. If I rename it to Gamez or Gaming it will show up. I can see it in WinSCP. Properties and permissions are set the same as the other folders I've created (Media, Apps, etc.) Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Getting my Jailbroken/Unlocked 3GS repaired/replaced - risks & resps?

Hi there,

recently i noticed a defect on my UK 3gs (jailbroken unlocked on pwned 3.1.2) and waited all the way till geohot released blacksn0w to have something done about the defect.

So I'm wondering now as I need to send back the phone to the apple store - which is the smartest condition I do so and what are my risks?

What I do see is the following, listed in semi-randomly order

- sending a jailbroken/unlocked phone is bad --> do not do that
- sending a jailbroken 3.1.2 on old baseband is bad as well even if its not unlocked --> do not do that either

--> "officially" restore to an original 3.1.2

- this leaves me with pwnage & blacksn0w once I need my iPhone back working

## case: i get it replaced/repaired
- I'll end up with a stock 3.1.2 with newest baseband
--> I can still use pwnage & blacksn0w to have it unlocked jailbroken again, right?

So what I should be dealing with here, and what I'd love to have confirmed with you guys is the minimal risk of apple upgrading their baseband during the next month and me getting one of those new, upgraded basbeband phones as a replacement.

Otherwise I'm safe.

Please tell me that I'm right ;-).

Hey everybody. I have the first gen iphone. 4GB. 3.1.2
Everything was working fine. Until one day at night before going to bed, i put it to charge, the next morning when i unhooked it, the battery only half full.
Later in the day, i hooked it up to my computer. doesnt do anything. computer doesnt recognize it. iphone acts like nothing was connected to it. When i hook it up to an old ipod video dock i have, it usually tells me to put in airplane mode and charges it, it only asked to turn on airplane mode. i pressed no like usual, but it didnt charge. So i decided screw it, and restore it fresh. Well. I cant get into restore mode. i hold down the home and power. it shuts off, i keep holding it, the apple logo come up, and turns off again. then...nothing happens. ive tried holding the homebutton while hooking it up, nothing.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated :D

so a few days ago my iphone 3g bought in july 08 randomly shut off, like i was texting and i put it in my pocket and i took it out again and the screen wouldnt turn on.

so i tried booting up, tried reset, tried DFU mode

got home, plugged it into the wall and it turned on and was at 93% battery

today at work it randomly shut off again. wouldnt turn on, tried everything

i plugged it into the wall when i got home and it showed the pineapple loading screen, then it just looped on that, never restarted

when i unplugged the cord it just shut off again

wont even turn on to the loading screen when plugged into a computer

its a brick!!! what can i do?

2 dead batteries in 4 months?

I bought my iPhone 3GS in July(JB it w/ Redsnow)..battery crashed out of the blue in Sept....mailed it in,got a replacement(refurbished I believe)...JB it again...put the very same apps(SB,MQUICK,Winter,MyWi,SSH,TERM,Back,Rock) and Im sure a few others...and the battery got hot and crashed again a week ago..so Im averaging 2 months every battery...mailed it in and Im getting a replace,ment morrow morn....I'll JB again and put the same apps again.....(maybe I will leave out Rock since Ive heard or read that Rock doesnt play well w/ others..anyway....anyone else getting dead batteries?..I mean I try to read all pertinent posts and it seems like all you guys cruise along trying diff apps and tweaks and if you encounter a problem you restore and re-JB...I get dead batteries and cant do anything but send it in to Apple.......TIA for any insight.

Hi guys,

I did use the search button and found a few other threads on this topic but failed to find a solution.

Info:

iPhone 3GS 16GB
FW 3.0.1 Jailbroken w/ redsn0w
OS - Windows Crapsta

Problem:

I did a full system settings restore because that seemed to improve performance on my old 2G if I did that once in a while. After setting my settings back up I found that I could not connect to the voice mail server when trying to upload password and greeting.

Steps to fix:

1. settings>general>reset>reset network settings
2. call AT&T and have them reset network settings on their end
3. reboot
4. dial 611 and reset my voice mail

nothing works. Is there an SSH solution? I really don't want to restore and rejailbreak because it is a pain in the butt!

New Firmware Beta?

Anyone up to date with any info about any beta firmware being tested by developers for the iPhone? We have been on 3.1.2 for a while and I used to beta test but haven't heard about anything new.

I am thinking about jailbreaking my phone (for the 10th+ time) and didn't want to get all invested in it if a new firmware is about to come out.

Along with this, anyone know about any new features being added via new firmware?

Is there anything that can be done to restore my data? Do I have to run one of those fake authentication servers and downgrade my firmware to 3.1, then restore from my manual backup?

This is pretty devastating to me. I felt like I did everything possible to ensure that my data was secure and could be restored at any time. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

My 3GS was having trouble voice dialing a specific number, so I wanted to find out if something in my phone book was confusing it. I wanted to back up my settings and data, briefly virginize my phone, test some things, restore my contacts and other settings from the manual backup, and jailbreak again using BlackRa1n.

Some details about my 3GS before I did anything today:
iPhone 3GS 16GB on AT&T
3.1 jailbroken using BlakRa1n
NOT the newer bootloader that requres a tethered Jailbreak
Cydia, Rock, Icy installed.
Notable Jailbreak enhancements:

Bluetooth Profile Selector (useful)
FindMyI (never configured or used)
BlackSn0w unlock (Just because I wanted to make sure it works fine with my phone. I'm still on AT&T.)
Rotation Lock option for SB settings (installed from Cydia this morning, *before* installing SBsettings)
SBsettings (Manually installed from Cydia right after installing rotation lock. Apparently it wasn't specified as a dependency / requisite.)
NOTE: After installing the Rotation Lock option for SBsettings, then installing SBsettings, I found that WiFi stopped working on my phone. It would not list any networks. Rebooting did nothing to help. I had to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This partially contributed to my decision to test the phone in a virgin state.

-I launched iTunes and made sure it was up-to-date.

-I plugged in my phone and and a prompt appeared about the 3.1.2 update.

-Not ready to update at this time, I chose "Download Only" instead of "Download and Install."

-I right-clicked on my phone in iTunes and chose "Backup," and waited for it to finish.

-I went into Settings > General > Reset >, then selected "Erase all settings and data".

Here's where I think I messed up. I don't know why that option is there if the iPhone locks up and can't finish erasing everything. My phone pretended to be busy for a little while and eventually went to the Apple logo with a frozen activity wheel. I let it sit for about a half hour and then consulted Google. I found a messageboard thread in which two know-it-alls condescendingly chastise another user for using this option...telling him: "of course the phone locked up, you erased the operating system! What do you expect?" That obviously doesn't explain why the option would be there if it can't even finish. The guy who tried it said he allowed 12 hours to see if the phone would finish, but it was still stuck on the "spinning wheel of death." If the option is there, it should at least be able to finish and go to a "Connect to iTunes" screen of some kind, or default to DFU mode.

-I had no choice but to restart the phone by holding Power+Home.

After verifying that it would not boot, I looked up the procedure for putting it into DFU mode.

-In DFU mode, iTunes proceeded to restore with 3.1.2.

-When it finished, I added a few test entries to the phone book and noticed that the iPhone was finally allowing me to voice dial Best Buy. Before, it would consistently call "Les Pickrell" without exception, no matter how distinctly I enunciated. The phone would always confirm the name to me as "Lay Pickrell" (as if it was French). I tried setting the nickname as "Less Pickrell", then removed that and set the phonetic first name as "Less"...but the phone would still always announce "Lay". I can't figure out why it's so stubborn about that. I had no problem getting the phone to respond "Calling Casey Witcher's punk ***" whenever I order it to "Call Casey."

After experimenting, I needed to get my phone book back ASAP (I was scheduled to call someone to work on his computer).

-I right-clicked on my phone in iTunes and selected "Restore from Backup."

-I selected the backup that was named "Evans's iPhone". There was another named "Evans's iPhone - Nov 14, 2009 6:14 PM". The indicated time was only about 10 mins earlier...so I'm sure the backup was made right when it finished recovering/upgrading to 3.1.2, and would not contain my data.

-I waited for the restore to finish...

It restored synched my AppStore apps, but NO contacts, NO calendar events, NO notes, NO photos/videos, NO email settings...NOTHING!

-I tried restoring from the other backup (the one that seems too recent to be my manual backup), but still have nothing.

-I tried restoring the first backup again and still have nothing.

Now iTunes lists 3 or 4 different backups...and apparently makes a new one each time before restoring another. It's cluttering my list.

I forgot to mention:

Cydia has my 3.1 ECID SHSH on file. Does that mean I can somehow roll back to 3.1 at any time? Don't I have to do something complicated, like impersonate an Apple verification server or something?

If I could roll back to 3.1, would that do any good? Does iTunes not restore settings and data from backups made w/ a previous firmware version?

Major Problems -- Iphone 3g 3.1.2 -- Phone & Ipod don't work

My 3g has some major issues. The phone will not work. It can receive and send calls, but when its connected neither I nor the connected party can hear each other. A strange sideffect, the phone will not go into speakerphone mode. I tap the speaker it blinks the highlighted blue for a second then goes back.

The ipod will not work either. When I pull up a song, I press play and it appears to play for a second (shows the pause icon), then goes back to stop mode (shows the play button).

The problem may have stemmed from my stupidity. I thought purplera1n was the most current jailbreak. So I tried to jailbreak a jailbroken 3.0.1 with purplerain instead of blackra1n. The phone started locking up several times a day. I have reset, reinstalled 3.1.2 through itunes, reset as a new phone. Nothing I try seems to fix this. Can anybody help? Thanks!

OK, this is an unscientific test.

I have two iphones, one is unlocked with Ultrasn0w and the other unlocked with Blacksn0w.

I called each phone 50 times. The new baseband phone rang everytime. The old baseband phone missed 11 calls. They didn't ring and went straight to voicemail.

Is there something to this? How do I update the 4.26.08 baseband phone to the current baseband and keep all my apps and keep it unlocked? I'm assuming I would have to unlock it again with Blackra1n/Blacksn0w.

Can someone walk a new guy through the process?

Hello Guys,

I'm new here and I came across here thru Google.

Short about my iPhone:
I'm since a lot of time a happy iPhone user. I purchased 1-2 weeks
after the 3GS release one of them, purchased in Italy, factory unlocked. The iPhone was/is not jailbroken, running official Apple Firmware 3.1.2.

What happened:
I have a lot of Apps installed from Appstore. 2 days ago I installed a game, "Kniffel" from German Appstore. I was playing
this game for around 1 hour, then my iPhone displayed a very strange message, something like this:
"iPhone can't make or receive calls. Restore with iTunes"
This message appeared while playing this "new" game.

I continued playing for ~5 minutes, then closed the app.
I saw that the iPhone really has no connection to cellular provider, displaying "No Service". I thought "ok, might be a bug or whatever" and turned off the iPhone, and then turn it on again.

Since that, the iPhone is NOT booting anymore into the "normal" OS. The Apple logo appears and then comes the Screen with the iTunes logo and USB cable and "Emergency Calls only". So looks like activation.

I tried then to connect the iPhone to iTunes. iTunes recognizes the iPhone and then give the error "Can't activate, no SIM inserted or SIM is locked with PIN". It's the same SIM card with what the iPhone all the time got activated. I tried then just so, to make an emergency call. I can't even call emergency. I can enter any number, 112 (Europe) or 911 (USA), but it says "Emergency calls only" like it doesn't recognize the numbers as emergency.

It goes even more crazy. As soon as I click the small i-Button (Info) where the IMEI and ICCID is shown, in both it shows "Unknown".

Okay. I tried to restore with iTunes. Normal restore is impossible so I put the iPhone into DFU mode. iTunes recognizes the iPhone and says "Recovery mode detected. Restore iPhone".
I click restore, iTunes begins to extract the iPhone Firmware IPSW and then waits for the iPhone. After some time, iTunes stops with an Unknown Error, Code 23. Restore with iTunes seems impossible, I tried it so many times.

I thought okay, maybe some jailbreak software could rescue my *** if it gets the system somehow booted up. I used blackra1n for 3.1.2 firmware. Blackra1n puts the iPhone in recovery mode itself, uploads its files and I see also the Blackra1n splash screen. The Software says then "waiting for reboot" of the iPhone, to make the jailbreak. iPhone stucks, then reboots. But not like blackra1n wants it. It goes again to the Connect iTunes mode with Emergency only. Blackra1n not working.

II thought okay, I try maybe redsn0w. Its for 3.0, I know it should make errors (because I have 3.1.2), but I want to see what happens. redsn0w begins, uploads stuff on iPhone, I see the splash screen of redsn0w on the iPhone. And as soon as the iPhone should reboot to go into the process of flashing (patching NOR, etc), it stucks. Exactly in the same moment like blackra1n, as soon as it should reboot to the flash process.

I think iTunes also stucks there. It may upload to the iPhone stuff. But as soon as iTunes wants to reboot the phone for flash process, it hangs.

I am out of ideas what I shall do. I don't live in Italy where I bought the iPhone, and Orange Moldova refuses to send this iPhone to Apple, even that I said I will pay all expenses. They refuse any support and say "Go to Italy". Apple USA also says "Go to Italy where you bought it".

I don't like to have a brick :-(
And even didn't jailbroken it, cracked it or anything else.
My old iPhone 3G (jailbroken) was working for a lot of time, without any problem.

The brand new 3GS is at the moment a brick. I would be so happy
if anyone could give advices, maybe saw such a problem, could help me fixing it or fix it for $.

Frozen iPhone & Unresponsive to Touch

I have an iPhone 3G. It is frozen at the lockscreen and it is unreponsive to any touch. Power and Home button work fine, but I can't even slide to power off.

I tried to get it in restore/dfu mode but it won't work. I held down the Power + Home button for more than 30 sec, but it won't restart or go into DFU mode.

I connected to PC and it doesn't recognized, so I can't even use iLiberty to get it into restore mode.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

ok, so the iphone i won in the MMI contest (THX :D) had to be restored yesterday, since it was stuck on apple logo, ok no problem. the phone is factory unlocked, so when i got it everything was working perfectly all i had to do is put in my FIDO sim. everyhting worked great, including push notifications. and somehow, EDGE was working perfectly too (i wasnt paying anything)

but now, after restoring and setting everything up again, no matter what i do push notifications dont work anymore, and edge no longer works either.

i noticed though, that IF i remove my simcard, i recieve the push notifications that i was supposed to get earlier :S but it still doesnt work live, with or without sim.

is there somethingi should do?! :)

Hi. My phone broke today and it won't restore. :(

I am getting error (9) every time I try. I have tried using a different cable, different port, different computer (that didn't have iTunes on it to begin with), reinstalled iTunes, I found a YouTube video that suggested removing all files from Application Data\Apple Computer so I moved those, and I've tried recovering from both normal recovery and DFU mode (I think, it's hard to know that you've succeeded). Error (9) every time.

I have a 3.1 OOTB iPhone that was upgraded to 3.1.2 today. I originally had an issue where something happened to the root password (SSH just stopped taking it and I didn't switch it), so I successfully restored and then when I wanted to install Winterboard the phone just froze for an hour on the Apple logo. Restored again and got further that time, but after installing CategoriesSB, the Springboard seemed to permanently break and every time I made an SB refresh I got dumped in safe mode -- and the only way out of that was using Categories' SB refresh.

Went for another restore and that's when I was just stopped dead in my tracks; error (9) every time now after dozens of attempts.

Somewhere along this line, iTunes lost track of my backed-up data so that seems to be completely gone now.

The only thing I can think of is that my phone and jailbreak hates 3.1.2, as I was running on 3.1 until it updated when I did my first restore. But there was no other option but "update and restore," and I thought 3.1.2 was cracked so I just allowed it. Was that a really bad idea? Can I go back to 3.1 somehow?

Any help is hugely appreciated. I've only had my 3GS for two months, meaning I have 22 months of contract for it left. :(

Bluetooth problem with dell laptop

I going nuts with this. for a month or more been tethering without any problems with dell laptop. now it is asking for pin number on dell then pin on iphone 3gs. i enter same numbers, 0000, or 2323 or 1234 on each device and no connection allowed. what the hell is different? is there a code in the bluetooth setting of the dell i can find to change? i even lowered the secruity to no password and still connection fails? any suggestions.

I used blackra1n to jailbreak my phone. I then used it to install cydia and rock. I chose backgrounder to install and it downloaded then asked to reboot. The phone shut down, a few seconds later the apple logo popped up for about 20 seconds then went black. When I try to power it up the same thing happens. I have searched for about an hour and can't seem to find anything to try. PLEASE help.

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. I will say I am new to all this IPhone stuff but I have read thousands of post in the last week or so and still I am looking for an answer to my problem and ready to cry and give up... Please be patience with me, I'll try to explain all the issues I'm facing.
Lets start from the beginning. Like thousand of people I was interested in an IPhone but using my T-Mobile SIM, so I found one on ebay with everything on the box, used, and as the description said,"... a fully functional 1st gen Apple 2G iPhone, 8GB. Great condition!
Includes: iPhone 8GB, USB cord, cradle, charger and original box with literature. I have restored this phone back to it's original settings and it does not contain a sim card. The battery life is still very good and components are in excellent condition..."
I got the phone looks like new. First thing I did was charged it. Then turn it on and got (if I remember correctly)the USB ==> ITunes picture with the message "no SIM card installed. Insert valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate IPhone" and the slide for emergency calls. If I connect to ITunes (ver 9) recognize the phone but no SIM, so I cannot go to any upgrade/backup/restore window. If I install T-Mobile SIM little tiny updated clock in middle top of screen (with USB==>ITunes picture and Emergency calls slide) connect to ITunes and get "wrong SIM,etc..." and still cannot get any restore screen. The point here so far is I don't have any way to check the firmware version. I found that using emergency calls I can dial *3001#12345#* + call, to see version, but in my case nothing happens... so no version.
Question is how can I jailbreak/unlock phone if I cannot install/upgrade/downgrade/restore firmware if ITunes doesn't give me the option in addition to what program will be the correct to use if I don't know (due to no clue version firmware) which one I have?

I inserted a genuine working AT&T from afriend plug into ITunes9 phone recognized but as to activate it click continue and my frien's number showed up. We stopped there and unplug until farther suggestion.

Okay guys I came across a very annoying and disturbing bug. I keep all the music in my iTunes extremely organized. Every song has a title, artist, album, year, and artwork.

I noticed the other day my iPod artwork on my iPhone 3G was getting all mixed up. The wrong artwork is on the wrong title. It's also using Genius artwork. Strange!

Heres the strangest part:

First of all, I don't even have that Hard Candy CD on my iTunes. Seriously. That's wrong.

Second of all, its showing Lady Gaga artwork when I double tap to get the track list.

Does anyone know what could've caused this? The iTunes artwork on my computer is all right. See ----->>>>>>

ok...i've tried with a couple of threads in different sections here but i guess i havent given all the information needed so i'll try it here.

i have an iphone 3gs which i jailbroke using the 3.0 firmware. i then updated my itunes to 9.0.1.8 and it was safe to do so with some help i got from people here by checking Cydia and finding out the my device has a 3.1 ECID SHSH on file.

i want to upgrade to 3.1.2 but i don't know what the safest way to do this is. not sure if updating straight from itunes (the firmware) is a safe choice and then use blackra1n to jailbreak.

I've had people mention that using a custom firmware and updating the firmware in that way would be best to preserve my baseband and not have to change to a new one.

to be honest...it's made me very confused as to what the right way to do this is. can anyone point me to the right direction with this situation (my life depends on it) hahaah...not really...i make it sound that way but i've become frustrated that i dont understand these things...sorry for my ignorance everyone...

Iphone 2g unknown firmware. Bought the phone in this condition, i'm guessing a wrong firmware flash. when i hook it up to itunes it says detected iphone in recovery mode but fails when i try to upgrade and restore. I tried several guides but no go. iRecovery looks like it kicks it out of reboot loop but it is still in restore mode and will not restore error 1608 and 1611. thanks for any help

But, everytime I run it, it shows the keyboard for about 1 second, then the keyboard disappears and I'm back at the springboard.

I shut my phone down and restarted and still have the same problem.

I uninstalled it, re-booted, re-installed and re-booted and it acts the same.

What am I doing wrong?

I thought jailbreaking is just software like unlocking, when you update the firmware it just overwrites the jailbreak.

WinSCP & Iphone Browser

I have had alot of trouble with both above mentioned programs, My Iphone 3GS has been jailbroken to 3.1.2 and everything works great. But the only problem I 'am haveing is getting the themes etc. from Modmyi to work. First i tried WinSCP which conneted and I was able to drag and drop filles into Library/themes but when I checked one of them in winterboard they would not load. And so onto many versions of iphone explorer and I finally found v1.93 works but it tells me at `the bottom that my iphone is not jailbroken. I would really appreciate any advice on my issues. And I have searched through the forums and found many helpful ideas but none exactly like mine.

Hi, I've tried searching everywhere but can't seem to find answers for my questions;

1. for some reason, the SSH toggle has disappeared from my SBSettings. I've tried reinstalling SBSettings toggles, SBSettings, tried turning the SSH toggle off then rebooting then turning it on... nothing seems to work. Is there any way to get it back?

2. Is there ANY way to change the alert times on the calendar alerts? I need some more options that just 1 hour or 2 hours for setting up an alert and cant find any tweaks for this

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am having a problem with signal. after I upgrade ultrasnow to 0.92. My phone loses signal every 5 - 10 minutes.I don't know what to do. I did try removing it and installing blacksnow. the result was the same.

hey guys, looking for some help.

Earlier today, I had WinSCP open, and accidentally deleted/moved something. I'm not sure what it was, it happened too fast. So now here is my problem. Once my phone rebooted, it is now stuck at the slide for emergency call screen with the background a usb pointing to itunes icon. I thought I could just plug it in and do a reset, but itunes gives me this error, "iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000068)"
iPhone is 3.1.2, and itunes is the newest version. The phone is not unlocked.

I have a question. When I down loaded the blackra1n to my desktop everything went through ok but when I opened it as the administrator and approved it to run this message came up "The procedure entry point sqlite3_prepare_v2 could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll. Is this message coming up because my phone is not connected or is this an issue. I was just trying to get it to run before I had my phone hooked up to make sure it downloaded properly. Please If and administrator could help with this one I can then move on with the jailbreak/unlock.

I feel as if I'm experiencing poorer-than-average reception since the jailbreak of my 3GS iPhone (via pwnagetool 3.1.4). Has anyone else experienced similar results? I've also updated my ipcc file to (re)enable tethering, might that have anything to do with it? I now regularly observe 1-2 bars where I would normally receive full signal. Also, I regularly remedy this problem by turning the antenna off, then on again (I often immediately receive full signal).

What can I do to improve all around signal and or signal seeking capability? Thanks.

I have a 3gs on 3.0 firmware. I been having call problems so i wanted to restore update to 3.1.2 and rejailbreak. But when I went to restore I got an error message that said,"There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone. The requested resource was not found." What does that mean and how can I fix it? I have fwchanger installed by the way. I think thats the problem but I uninstalled it and still got the same message I even tried another computer aswell with the same result. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm VERY confused about how to unlock and j/b my iphone 1G to 3.1.2. Now, I got an iphone 1G running 3.0.1, I'm on tombile and windows. On my phone, it says that I got baseband: 04.05.04. How can I unlock and j/b my phone? I want to be able to turn my phone off and on without connecting my phone to my computer.

My computer crashed, and i need to restore my iphone. itunes says that i have to erase my ringtones and sync with what is on there now, which is nothing at all. but i don't want to lose all of the custom ringtones i already have on my iphone. can someone tell me where they are located? I can SSH into my phone, but they aren't in the private\var\stash\ringtones directory... those are just the stock iphone tones. I want the ones that i put in through itunes

Can no longer get voicemails possibly trap call problem

Ever since I used trapcall I can no longer get voice mails. I even canceled my trap call account and still cant; receive them. I had my phone jailbroken in 3.0 so I restored it and now its updated to 3.1.2 unjailbroken and i still can't get voice mails. anyone else have this problem.

Hi, I want to put pictures in the DCIM folder in my iPhone and when I go into the DCIM folder on WinScp, and transfer my pictures, they all mess up on the camera roll folder. and show as black thumbnails.

How can I transfer my pictures? as they were backed up from my iPhone from before I upgraded to 3.1.2 and Don't want to create a seperate folder for them!

Does anyone know of a case (most likely a clear one) that will fit the iPhone WITH the musicskin installed on the back? I first thought about just sticking it on top of the case I have now, but I don't think that will work. But if anyone's done that, let me know!
