I need a way to list files in a directory outside the app's directory. Many apps have done this already- dtunes, avplayer, etc. I am using xcode and it does not allow me to do this.

I already have iPhone Application Development for Dummies and that book relies on you having some previous knowledge of programming, so it didn't really help, I have watched many videos on YouTube and they taught me well but none of them taught me what I need to learn. I've already downloaded the SDK and I have also looked through Apple's Resources. Any suggestions on learning from scratch?

I was in bed last night thinking about why jailbroken apps are installed on the primary partition.

As most of you will know, when you select Apple's official upgrade within iTunes all the software on the primary partition is replaced with the new software and thus the iPhone is then un-jailbroken. Also, ALL jailbroken apps are erased!


Now I was just wondering why the jailbroken apps are not installed on the secondary partition along with the App Store apps?

I realise that they would no longer run as the iPhone is no longer jailbroken but you could then re-jailbreak and not have to install all your apps from Cydia again!

I am working on 3.1 SDK with UIImagePickerController.
When I call takePicture I recieve image with size 1600x1200 in my "- (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerControll er *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info". But ptoblem is that it take a lof of time (almost 1 second). Is it possible predefine/configure UIImagePickerController for other size (for example, 320x300)?
Does anybody have any solutionn how to change this size?

I'm not quite sure if this is where this post goes, but I'll give it a shot.

Is there any possible way to make a sort of back button or icon or something? For instance, if you are in an app and want to go to the previous screen, sometimes you can't do that. Most of the time you have to get out of the application and then reload it. I think if there is something like that for people, it would be very useful. I hope I'm explaining this the right way, if not please let me know and I will try to give a better explanation.

Say - is it possible to directly control certain pins?

I'm particularly interested in the serial port pins and I know that working with it has been documented before, but I'm trying to skip across all the subsystems and read/write from/to the Rx/Tx lines bit by bit. I'm not interested in any communication protocols.

I realize this is possible to a certain point but I don't know how far down the pipe can software go and where does the hardware take over. If that's the case at all, I don't know. I mean if there's part of a chip handling serial and you can only tell it to send whole characters, then I'm out of luck; but I don't even know that. So please, somebody, share your wisdom here.
