Hi, I'm new to this.

I have a iPhone 2G 3.1.2 unlocked with the latest Blackra1n (I believe). I am running T-Mobile prepaid.

I have been able to send messages and receive messages from other phones. But when I send a message to the iPhone from a web page like those free SMS sites or emailing to my xxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net, I cannot receive any of them. It used to work on my old Motorola phone.

Am I missing something? And I apologize if this is a well known fact that I'm not aware of. I'm a newbie to this.

Thanks.

So this is my first post! Hello! After seeing all my friends with Iphones, I decided to make the plunge and get an Iphone, However, I think At&t is the CRAPPIEST phone service in my area, so I bought an unlocked one for Tmobile........(patiently waiting at my mailbox for it)

After reading a few things, I decided to go with the 2G because I wont be able to get on Tmobile's 3G service.

I'm always up for getting a new phone......so is there an advantage to getting a 3G or a 3GS for Tmobile network?

Well, not sure if this has something to do with my plan or got lucky.

My phone is a 3GS, Jailbroken and Unlocked at 3.1.2 with 4.26... modem. Ultrasnow 0.92
My plan is Unlimted loyalty plan, Total Internet, 1000 texts.

Now before, i have had many setting, tried many of the carrier bundles to no luck. Always blurry low res images.

Today, oddly i was messing around switching things up and suddenly, walla. Full resolution images, send and receive.

Now for Internet i have: epc.tmobile.com

For mms i used to use epc.tmobile.com username blank, etc.... Blurry images, tried wap, etc overtime to no help. Then i saw i post where a user set the max message size to 9999999.

Well when i did that, somehow that messed up the internet, and mms. Without going into details, i ended up with these setting with somehow full res mms pics.

Internet: APN: epc.tmobile.com

MMS:
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Username, password: Blank

MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
MMS Message size: 999999
UA Prof: Blank

Now this is with no carrier bundle installed. Hopefully this works for the rest of you all.

I've posted multiple posts about my recent problems with MMS.
thanks to the forum, my MMS is now working properly.
I have an iPhone 3g, 3.0 firware and using the G1 Data plan.

I went the Cydia - sinfuliphonerepo.com (source) - 'mms & tethering'.
After installing, resetting the settings, and re-booting.
My Data Roaming was set to OFF and both of my APNs were blanked.

I changed my Data roaming to "ON" and added wap.voicestream.com to my MMS APN.
My cellular data APN is still blank (weird).

but Everything works, calls, texts, internet, MMS.

Thanks for everyone who chimed in. I hope this thread helps those who also couldn't Receive MMS after that infamous 'outage'.

finally!

I currently run 3.0 firmware on my 3G and after trying every recommendation (thanks to everyone) I Still CANT get my 3g to Receive MMS messages. It was working perfectly before that weekend 'outage' a few weeks ago.

My question is, should I upgrade to firmware 3.1.2 and see if I can get the MMS to work, or stay with 3.0 and keep trying to get MMS to work?

Ive read people w 3.1.2 using the sinfuliphonerepo.com from cydia and their MMS works perfectly. But I also hear bad things after people upgraded to 3.1.2.

Not sure what to do.. any ideas?

I live in the UK but visit the US about 3 times a year for 2-4 weeks at a time.

Currently I have a T-Mobile ToGo phone for voice and text which has suited me well for 3 years because I can go up to a year between reloads, letting me keep the same number and giving me a phone that works when I step off the plane.

I now have an unlocked iPhone 3GS that I'd like to use in the US next time I travel. I have been considering the following:

1. Switch to the $1/day Sidekick plan. But I've heard that this doesn't work with iPhone any more. Is there a clever workaround?

2. Get a new SIM on Even More Plus and pay only for the first month; then cancel and throw it away and do this again for the next trip.

I know #2 means I get a new phone number every time, but I can probably live with that for unlimited Internet... is it viable?

If I order a SIM card in advance with 500 Talk + Text and add $10 Unlimited Web does the plan start immediately, or can I wait until I'm in the country to activate it?

Actually, Talk + Text + Unlimited Web is $10 cheaper than selecting Talk + Text + Web right away. Is there a difference?

Will it cause problems further down the line with by repeated orders if they can see I frequently dump a plan after just one month?

Or (ideal scenario) is it possible to switch between my ToGo plan and Even More Plus and back again on a month-by-month basis - so that way I have full service when I'm in the US, but my account stays active but costs me nothing when I'm back home?

Thanks for any advice!

So I was having a bunch of trouble getting this working, but I tried something and so far it works for me. My problem was that I downloaded enable mms for 2g 3.1.2 from sinful and it installed the wap apn for cellular data that doesn't work. When I tried to change it to internet2.voicestream.com the apn for mms would disappear. So I tried this out and so far it works.

Download enable MMS for iphone 2g 3.1.2 from sinfuliphone, after reboot go into settings-general-network, and under cellular data, change the APN to internet2.voicestream.com, press return, then exit. You'll see that when you go back here the APN for MMS is blank. If you try to change it the APN for cellular data will change as well, so don't do it.

Now open safari and go to help.benm.at/help

Note*
If you get an error message when trying to open safari go back into network settings and make sure the cellular data apn is internet2.voicestream.com, then go back to safari and open above page.

Scroll down till you see Mobileconfigs, use the second one which is to create your own, press create.
Under mobile internet fill in this: internet2.voicestream.com, leave everything else blank, press done then scroll down and press generate. Now you will be sent to an install page, click install and follow prompts, allow it to replace the phone settings. When profile installed press done and exit.
Now go back into network settings and confirm that these:
cellular data apn: internet2.voicestream.com
MMS apn: epc.tmobile.com

Now everything should work...good luck

I am thinking of getting an iPhone. Mainly for calendaring use, since I have things to do, appointments, deadlines etc written in 20 different places.

I can either add a line to my brothers iPhone family plan. ~$60 right?
Or I can get a 2nd gen iPhone and add to T-mobile. ~$50?

I do decent amount of calling, moderate texting, and would use moderate internet.

Maybe I am missing something, but when I look up T-mobile plans, say "Even more" or "Even more plus" they end up being $50 or $60, which is about the same at AT&T (although better service and coverage).

Thoughts or suggestions?

Lost my Web 2 Go service a couple days ago. Kept getting a message saying "you will need a data plan to access t-mobile web". I changed my APN from EPC to internet2 and still got the same message. It wouldn't even allow me to add a new service on t-mobiles website, even if I switched "my phone" to a different phone, the internet plans weren't even listed. When I called up they knew I had an iphone and they stated Web 2 Go is something they are no longer offering. I guess they are forcing any iphone IMEI numbers into their "total data plan". It's now $40/month. Did this happen to anyone else?

And I was wondering if any one knows if the even more plan work on the iPhone as far as the Internet goes. Because I found out that the sidekick Internet plan doesn't work.

Yes, you read that right. I'm one of the very few last hold outs who never jumped on the cellphone bandwagon. I just never liked the idea of being that accessible. Well last week the company I work for sold me a barely used iphone 3G that was passed over for some fancy blackberry. I got a decent price on it, and figured I'd finally join the 21st century. First thing I did was jailbreak and unlock it using blackra1n and blacksnow... now all I need to do is find a service provider. :)

Could anyone help me out with this? I don't know anything about the cellphone world, or about carriers, or anything. I rarely use the phone and would probably use the phone mostly in case someone needs to desperately get a hold of me, or in case of emergencies. I'm not at all interested in texting. I am interested in data plans though (data plans are internet plans, correct?). I'd also like to be able to tether my macbook if that's at all possible. If not, that's cool, but having unlimited internet would be very nice. I'm really looking for the cheapest options available to me. As I understand it, only t-mobile and AT&T support unlocked iphones so that narrows my options. I've heard people discussing pay as you go programs and this sounds nice as well seeing as I don't think I like the idea of being locked into a contract.

What all do you advise? Also I want to apologize up front if this question has been asked a million times before. I did search through the forum a bit, but it seems that carrier deals, and iphone unlocks change monthly, and I figured any advice I might find too far into the past would be pretty much irrelevant.

Thanks!

Alright folks. After a 10 hour sit down of research, us 2G owners are about to finally have our MMS back on 3.1.2!!

Heres the deal. The current "Enable MMS" that Ifoneguide has put out is garbage. It had bricked my phone, encounterd the spinning wheel of death and a couple of times getting stuck at the boot up screen.

Below are the steps I took in successfully enabling MMS back on the fresh 3.1.2 Firmware ** 2G **

1. Download 3.1.2 firmware from Apple and install thru Itunes

2. Run Blackra1n

3. After ra1n has completed, Do not start your backup from previous save (yet)

4. Open up your Blackra1n app on your springboard and install Cydia. Let it do its thing updating). (I didnt need to use bootneuter. My unlock has kept in place.)

5. When Cydia completes, add this edit, link removed, known warez site

6. Install "Enable MMS for 2G & 3.1.2"

7. After instalation, your Iphone will reboot.

8. After Reboot, check to see if you see the camera icon at the bottom of your messenger. If you see it, good! DONT TRY SENDING YET!

9. At this point simply establish the connection with Itunes and let it continue its backup from your previous save. At this point it will update your APN and Proxy information from before when you had MMS before 3.1.2. (For me I had been using Spookyet's .ipcc files.)

10. After complete backup, no need to update any APN settings. If you go into settings/Network/Cellular Data Network; all should look the same from your pre- 3.1.2 upgrade (from when you could send MMS). If its not updated simply add your ipcc settings that you had before)

11. Open your messages app and send a pic! Enjoy!

For those of you wondering what my settings are. I am running T-mobile on 5.99 Tzones. Here is my setup. I have tested and successfully sent tons of MMS since this process. I hope everyone has the same success I had. Good luck!

APN: epc.tmobile.com

MMS: wap.voicestream.com

Ok, so after being on the phone with the tmo techs, they stated the issue of being able to send and not receive is very widespread accross the US and only an issue for iPhone users. He did comfirm this is not an act to get rid of or flush out the iPhone users, he let me know that several 100,000 users are in fact iPhone users, and this is a huge issue for them at the moment. We went through numerous configuarations and rebooted and tried not rebooting, and being kicked off the tower, and nothing. My advice to you is have someone send you a test MMS if you cannot currently recieve and getting the following error: The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction, several times a day, turn your phone off an on a few times a day, I guess unless someone has some better news, we wait patiently..

Hi, i'm finally ponying up and getting data services on my iphone after only owning it for over a year..yeah took me long enough. I'm on a 2g iphone f/w 3.0 (can't upgrade as my power button doesn't work but I do have ireboot installed) My questions to you are these

1. on the t-mobile website which phone should I select as my phone to avoid having to sign up for smart phone packages for the g1 or blackberry?

2. How much difference is notable while on the road using web2go instead of the $30 package?

3. I see people talking about a $20 data+ unlimited data package, but I don't see it anywhere on the t-mobile site (see question #1 again) how do I find that and are there really any differences between that and the $9.99 package

4. Any other suggestions or ideas you may have are welcome.

Thanks guys, i'm digging the site btw..much better than other forums i've seen.

Update i've gone ahead and selected the razor as my dumb phone via the tmobile website, I already have the $14.99 unlimited text but still can't find the $20 unlimited data and text package
