I have a 2G iPhone that I stopped getting AT&T service approx 18 mos ago due to not being able to afford it because of personal issues. I was using it frequently as a music device and for other non-related service needs. Recently, things started getting better that I could afford some cell service, but not the near $100/mo for AT&T's minimum call+data package...so I got me a pay as you go SIM and stuck it into an old RAZR.

I recently discovered jailbreaking and unlocking my phone and it works like a charm...I stuck my AT&T pay as you go SIM into the iPhone and I can use my minutes on my iPhone and get wifi internet access...it's wonderful!

However, in my excitement, I believe I may have lost my camera roll forever, with some treasured pictures of my daughter.

I had to restore back from 3.1.2 back to 3.0 and then I used redsn0w. That is obviously when I lost all my personal data and media files on the iPhone. I got all my iTunes music synced back to the phone, however I had assumed that iTunes was saving my camera roll as well...but I can't find the photos, only music.

If I try to restore to a backup point, will that undo all the work I did in jailbreaking and unlocking the phone? I just want to get my old photos and I'm told that iTunes does store them as backups, but I can't find them.

I would love to restore my iPhone and just upgrade to the newest firmware and use BlackRain for my next Jailbreak but I am getting error 13. I have tried this on several machines and on my computer creating a new user profile. Currently I have a brick for a phone and I would love to be up and running again.

I had used redsnOw for my last jailbreak and it's been working fine on version 3.0.1 on my 3G phone.

I'm running a 3 month old 3gs on 3.1.2 with the latest baseband unlocked with Blackra1n and Blacksn0w. Now my problem is that i seem to have a hardware problem with my iPhone. No matter what baseband or software version i use my phone constantly crashes and resets itself and has twice now crashed to the point that it needs a total restore. Now i think i have got to the point that i need to send it to apple to get it repaired or replaced.

My question is this, i read a while ago that the latest 3Gs are shipped out with a brand new Bootrom that cannot be jailbroken or cant be jailbroken in the same way that has been used since the phone came out. So if i send my phone away and it gets replaced with a brand new one does this mean i wont be able to install blackra1n/blacksn0w?

problem: when my 3G jailbroken with 3.1.2 is plugged into the comp running itunes 9.0.2.25, i tunes freezes. if i unplug the phone, it unfreezes. it is frozen if the phone is plugged in, works if the phone isn't plugged in. pretty simple really.

as far as i know blackra1n was installed correctly.
computer is running windows XP.
tried different USB ports and rebooting.
ipod nano interfaces with itunes just fine.

Got a little Problem here. My stats are:

My Problem is:
Tried to upgrade to 3.1.2 via iTunes upgrade function, iphone turned on normally. Everything worked fine until the "copying fimware to device" message with the recurring little blue brick just didn't vanish. The progress bar on the Phone was at 0% (meaning it wasn't there, just the contourbox). After an hour I rebooted the pc and the phone. since then I can switch between dfu-mode and recovery-mode but the iphone won't boot.

I already tried the folowing:
- using iRecovery to re-enable boot-functionality
-> no success

- installing other firmware-versions
-> error-messages varying from the expected "not eligible" to error numbers 2005, 3014, 1600.

- trying to get back to other fw versions va guru's "[Howto] Setup a local 3GS restore verification server (ECID SHSH)" guide
-> error-messages like before

- older versions of iTunes(e.g. 8.2, 8.2.1)
- the usual pluging-around to different usb-ports
- an other pc (don't have a mac and happy aout it...)

A guy I work with wanted me to do his 3G so this afternoon I did so and it went well except now the wifi doesn't work. I get the standard "no wi-fi" greyed out option in settings.

I have reset network settings, reset all settings, soft rebooted, installed the push fix from cydia, turned on airplane mode and reset settings and restarted etc etc over and over. The 3G is v3.1.2 with firmware 05.11.07, exactly the same as my 3GS I jailbroke last night.

I am at my wits end and hope to hell this guy has backed up his phone recently so I can try restoring it back to original 3.1.2.

One of the however (mine) one random day decided to stairt draining the battery and got really really hot. I restored it right away. I tried jailbreaking it againg after the restore I click on the famous "make it ra1n" button... It seems to work!, the iPhone goes into recovery mode. 15 seconds later blackra1n tells me the jb is done! But my iPhone is still on the picture of the cable and iTunes (recovery mode). I wait for the reboot.... Nothing. I wait for an hour... Nothing. Then I reset my phone myself and it's still in recovery mode so I hbe to restore againg from iTunes

Please help as I have tried this 4 times getting the same results. I tried pwnage tool but iTunes gives me error 2001/1605. I don't kno what to do.

Note: my 3gs does not have an iboot rom as it was made on the29th week (I checked the serial) I updated to fw 3.1.2 (stupid mistake) but I should still be able to jb using blackra1n

i can open cydia, rock, and icy without a problem.. i can open winterboard even, i can even INSTALL packages but i can't ever see themes or have fun with any of the tweaks n such

Last night cydia told me that 3 programs I have installed have updates, so I figure what the heck, might as well update. Bad idea. The phone downloads the updates, reboots and is then stuck at the apple logo forever. I finally had no choice but to restore. Didn't wanna do it but the logo was just not gonna go away so I bit the bullet and restored.

When I restored, itunes automatically updated the iphone firmware to the absolutely most up to date version (not sure of the number). Does anyone know if this will make it impossible rejailbreak using blacksnow? I probably shouldn't have let it update the phone but I was in such a panic to get it working again that I was just hitting yes to everything. I'd really love to rejailbreak but I'm worried that I'm now screwed and can't do it.

Also, does anyone know what happens if I can rejailbreak and I try to redownload the apps in cydia that I paid for? Will I have to pay again, or will cydia somehow know I've already bought it, like the itunes store does? I'd hate to have to buy the few programs I did buy all over again, that would kinda suck.

I should add that I just want to jailbreak, I don't really want to unlock. I know the guy who created blackrain is working on an unlock, but that's a whole separate thing from blackrain, right? If I use blackrain, I won't be unlocking my phone too, will I?

Rest assured, any thoughts anyone may have on this would be greatly appreciated.

Now the problem-if i turn the phone off or a new installed program requires a reboot it goes to dfu mode (shows usb and itunes logo). i plug in and run blackra1n again and it's no problem, but i can't stay by the computer all day incase i need to reboot.

Like a call will come in, but sometimes it doesn't ring, and it stays on the screen, as if it's connected to the call, even though it isn't. Also, it seems a lot that I can call a number, and it doesn't do anything, it acts like it's connected, shows the call timer, but no ringing, nothing, and after a respring, it works again. It's kind of annoying heh...

What is important to me is:
Being able to use MyWi for a hotspot
Being able to turn my phone off and not lose my jailbreak

There are a number of apps requiring 3.1 that I want as well as MMS and being able to arrange apps thru iTunes. And these all require 3.1.2

So, is there a downside?

And what is the best way to do it?
Just use iTunes and do the firmware upgrade Apple provides, then use blackra1n RC3?

I jail broke my iPhone 3GS 3.1.2 with blackra1n a while ago (yes it is tethered... no i don't care).

Here is the problem:

I am a massive perfectionist and the one thing that I cannot stand is that the numbers within the alert bubbles (notification for emails etc) and not exactly within the red circle (have a look at the first attached image).


Other things that might help in your diagnosis:

- I have fontswap installed but the system font running is the default (clock font however is altered)

- I am running a modified glasklart theme (I got rid of the icons and replace the SBBadgeBG.png so it is the same a default)

- I have altered the lock screen heavily as well (check the second attached image) making the slider transparent and just making it look... better (I don't know how this could make a difference but then again I have no idea what's going on)



Any help would be appreciated...

First i updated my itunes to 9.0.2.25
Then plugged phone in,and in devices tab on left hand side of itunes on the summary page i made sure that the option to auto sync when connected was not checked.
Then i checked for update and let it update me to 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11.07
I rebooted
This kept all the app store apps on but what i then did was press the restore tab and let that carry out its job (losing everything...just like a brand new un)
I rebooted again..
On the phone went to settings>general>reset and reset all settings, after all this i rebooted again (i love rebooting me)
I then run Blainra1n rc3 and hit the make it rain
After the auto reboot i went to my wifi and connected to my router then i installed cydia and then rock (did not run snow cus i'm staying on my uk o2 contract)
After that i went to applications in itunes and checked the boxes of apps i wanted back on (after installing appsync for os 3.1)

all apps paid/non paid/cracked working sound

I probably rebooted more than i should and reset things where i needn't but hey i'm happy, i backed nothing up apart from installing ZYB for all my contacts (free on app store) and before doing so i took picture snaps of each app page (by pressing power off and home buttons at same time quickly) so that i could look at what i would need. The same then done from A to Z of cydia > manage > sources.

hope this helps someone cus after reading a few pages of problems before i attempted i was worried about the upgrade, i had not one single problem (yet)

I have followed most of the tuts I have found, but nothing seems to work. Only 1 time did I actually get the geohot picture, but it didn't finish, so I reran it, and it just stayed on the recovery screen.

I reupdated again, just to be sure, and started over like 5 or 6 times with no success.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Any way my, phone is 3GS 3.1.2 with B1acksn0w both Jailbreak and unlocked. At this point I am waiting for my unlock to go through. I understand thet O2 basically send’s my iphone IMEI and then via the ITunes my phone will get unlocked.
My Question is what will happen in my case with a jailbroken unlocked phone ? Will I have to restore it clean first ? Or will the unlock will work anyway?
Sure it is already unlooked, but I went it to be legally unlocked without the Jailbreak....

I only ask because my SIM Card was already used in the G1 and the guy from T-Mobile said normally they don't exchange phones but he can make an exception since the iPhone 3G is a "try out" phone.

That means it was lying around in the shop for about one month for customers to play around with it so it obviously has been activated in some way before.

How high are the chances that I need to worry about updating my Baseband as I don't want to make the phone lock me out...
And of course I want to Jailbreak it...

I get the message that Blackra1n has done its job , but simultaneously i-tunes tells me that it detects a phone going into recovery and that it needs to be restored.

no picture of Geohot appears andi just get the plug into itunes image on phone, menawhile itunes on computer is telling me to restore.

I have tried the trick of unplugging usb and then re-initiating then plugging in , but no joy.

just going round in circles repeating the same thing!

It does a double-vibrate every few seconds (like it does when the Enter Password screen comes up on boot).....and while USB'd to the PC, it DOES show up and i even copied my pics over to my HD. After a few minutes though, it stops, disconnects and then reconnects after a few minutes, and that's the loop.

The funniest part, though, is that while its doing this, i can still SSH into it.

I have been up all night (LITERLY) trying to find a solution, I have read a lot of the SAME stuff over-and-over-and-over again so I will try to make this as concise as possible.

I have a 3GS running 3.1.2. I updated due to the ease of jailbraeking with blackra1n. So I jailbroke the phone a couple days ago, everything went smoothly and I had been having the time of my life, until…

I downloaded NES and the same emulator for saga genesis. I also downloaded the ROMs for both of them. The NES would not open, the saga did open. I played sonic for a few minutes but the sounds were crackling. I decided to uninstall all 4 of the aforementioned packages from cydia to avoid any problems.

While uninstalling NES, the iphone crashed and got stuck in reboot mode. (It is possible, that cydia was trying to give me a delayed error message for the “sinful source” during the uninstall. I don’t remember exactly). I finally figured out how to turn it off, but once turned back on, it goes right back to the reboot loop.

I tried to restore it but itunes will not restore. It comes back saying “an unknown error occurred (9).” I have done nearly EVERYTHING the support page said to do. I have done nearly EVERYTHING the forums said to do, and nothing!

I am running windows XP.
-- I have used different USB wires and ports, even a hub, rebooted pc etc etc
-- I have tried it in both reboot mode and DFU mode
-- I know DFU is being done correctly because windows confirms this, and the log files from the failed restore do as well

Here is what happens:
-- The SAME thing happens REGARDLESS of how I try to restore, DFU, or not.
-- itunes begins the restore process. It gets through the “preparing phase” just fine.
-- Executing software, no problem. Verifying with apple; the screen goes white for about 30 seconds. (Are they bricking me?). Then it “prepares for restore”.
-- At this point itunes says it is “waiting for the phone”. Now you can see the apple logo and a progress bar. The progress bar does not advance at all, and after five seconds the error message comes up.

Because the exact same thing is happening at the exact same point, I don’t think uninstalling itunes or creating a new account will make a difference, am I wrong?

Additional information and questions:
I synced and backed-up two or three times after the jailbreak, most recently a few hours before the crash. I copied the backup file to my desktop. If I uninstall itunes, will I be able to restore from last backup?

After jailbreaking, I changed the root and admin passwords via terminal as advised. Could changing these passwords from alpine be the problem? And if so, is there a fix?

I live about an hour and a half from an apple store. I will happily go there if I have to, but would clearly like to avoid it... The phone is ‘still under warrantee’, well.. yah know... sorta… Of course I will not tell them I jailbroke the phone, but will they be able to tell? I wanted to wait for some responses before calling since apple doesn’t care if your phone gets stolen, but jailbreaking, that’s another story. Plus, I’m not exactly sure how to “call” them… Lastly, and most obviously, do any of you know what the problem is and how it can be solved?

I can make it say AT&T with MakeItMine but it doesn't look the same-- the characters are slightly taller and don't line up correctly with the signal and wifi bars.

Currently everything works great running on the AT&T network, except that SWIM will get MMS picture messages that he sent to other people in the past, resent back to himself in the form of texts from other people in his contact list.

If you go to the list of text messages from everyone it shows the correct text, but if you open the body of the text sometimes it will have a MMS picture message that he sent to someone in the past.

Has anyone seen this issue before? SWIM keeps getting these MMS messages, instead of getting the correct SMS from his friends.

Any help is much appreciated.

the iphone is working great but i need to be able to load music ans appz!

So yesterday i did a firmware upgrade to 3.1.2 (7D11) and the modem firmware is now 05.11.07, i also ran blackra1n and load cydia again and everything is fine but still itunes does not sync and still displaying the same message. The phone was origninaly from rogers and my carrier is now fido. I guess i'm missing something! so if someone could give me the step to get rid of this and be able to use itunes would be great.

I entered the dfu mode thing (held power button and home button then released power) and then i shift clicked restore in tunes to restore to the 1.1.2 firmware i downloaded....trouble is, i get an error saying it can't restore, error 1601. then it stays stuck in that mode. I can get it to restore back to 3.0 so its not broken.

I've done my search and can't get a real answer to this.

Is the bootrom update-able through itunes or is it a flash from factory only?

Some believe updating to the latest firmware through itunes (3.1.2) will also update the bootom. Others says the bootrom is flashed from factory and stays the same through all firmware updates to the iphone (like a real rom should).

If it is acutally update-dable through itunes restore then is there a way to downgrade your firmware to undo this bootrom? I am being led to believe that my iphone did not have the updated bootrom but got it through itunes when a friend restored it using the non-shift + restore method (which possible updated the bootrom).

I took it back in the shop today and he said just take all your apps off the iphone and then turn off the phone then load them all back on.

I see that this is a common problem but there are SO many answers and variations of each problem that i cant find my exact specifications or details anywhere.

Here is my story:

Bought an unlocked, jailbroken iphone last week:
- 3G
- 16gb
- 3.0.1
- Used with T-mobile
- Was using Cydia & Winterboard to modify design
- Was working perfectly, only thing that didnt work was wifi

Last night i download some games (jeopardy, snood, etc.) through the app store in itunes on my macbook osx (tiger). For some reason once I bought them and synced the iphone and itunes, only the jeopardy transferred to my iphone. I was fooling around and trying to sync and re-sync, and then....

Then i made the dumbest mistake ever!

itunes prompted me to upgrade to 3.1.2.

I went ahead and upgraded (STUPID), and then itunes gave me the error that "The sim card used with this iphone does not appear to be supported." GREAT!

I started googling and read that I should try to do a Restore by holding down the HOME button and the On/off/sleep button while plugged into my laptop.

HOWEVER, before I did this, I did check the Settings in my iphone and it said that i WAS operating with 3.1.2

After I attempted a Restore, my iphone then got locked in the USB/tunes/Emergency calls only screen that everyone loves so much.

So now I cant get onto my iphone, and I cant access it through itunes either. AWESOME!

This is my only phone and i use it for work so if i dont have this fixed by this afternoon i will probably be sent to the guillotine.

- I am reading that I need to install Pwnage and attempt to jailbreak the 3.1.2 now. HOWEVER, on one forum (dev-team blog) it says:

"If you’re already jailbroken (by whatever means), you don’t need to mess around with DFU mode at all. Just create (or get from a friend) your custom IPSW and Option-Restore (Shift-Restore on Windows) to it via iTunes. Don’t enter DFU mode at all."

Is this something that applies to me because i was already jailbroken on 3.0.1??

I am totally confused.

If someone can be kind enough to give me step-by-step instructions for dummies on how to remedy this i would be sooo appreciated. Im screwed right now!

I'm happy to go from 04.26.08 to the 05.11 baseband and use blackra1n / sn0w to unlock if that brings a solution for the carrier logo issue, but on the above tweet there's a hint at losing WiFi with blackra1n / sn0w ?

I realise there's a Cydia app to fix the carrier logo issue but it did weird things for me on a friend's 3G (please see other post)

Once it does it starts back up in restore mode or whatever it is, with the usb cable picture and asks me to connect to itunes, and which point i have to restore it and wipes the jailbreak and Cydia. ive gone through this about 5 times.

It's not an "App" since I really don't know how to go about making it work with a GUI. I could install it to the local FS but honestly, the people that install it but can't find the icon and complain are the people I'm trying to avoid. :)

Upload this script to your phone as root (or use curl to download it), chmod +x it, and run it. That simple. It requires Python, which I think comes by default if you jailbreak? If not, install it.

Here's an example of it doing it's magic:

I have one thing left I want to do on it, but I'm going to sleep. :P But the probability of that conditioning happening is very unlikely, so I'd call this a pretty stable test program.

FYI, unless you have a source failing that was installed by "All Sources", this app won't do much besides verify everything's working. However, if you do have one failing (like I did this week, yet again), or if you notice it happen often enough to be annoying, this is a script for you.

Would love to hear some feedback.

I have an iPhone 3G that works excellent for me. Some time ago I decided to upgrade it from 2.1 to 3.0 via iTunes. I liked the new software yet I missed some of my apps from 2.1 so decided to go back to 2.1 without any problems. Right now many cydia apps require newer iphone baseband so I decided to go for 3.0 and unlock it. I downloaded clear 3.0 firmware: (iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore..ipsw) and tryied to restore my phone using it. It always gave me 1015 error even I was sure it was in DFU mode. I also tried to use PwnageTool but it gave me message that 3.0 firmware is not the right one. QuickPwn doesn't recognize my phone at all.
I also used redsn0w but after jailbreaking my phone came back to restore mode. It looks like I have tried almost everything to make my iPhone run custom 3.0 firmware yet I might have missed something.
I'm in iphone stuff since long time and now a bit bout it but right now I need your help guys. I went to do an iPhone 2G 8GB, went to blackra1n, and it put the phone into recovery, then the screen goes black and never loads the geohot splash screen. Will sit there basically forever. I am able to home/power reboot and it will come back up normally, but it remains unjailbroken. Although blackra1n stated that the jailbreak was done, and to wait for the phone to reboot.

I had another friend with this same problem on his 3G 8GB, but he was able to fix that by putting the phone into airplane mode, and the jailbreak went through.

Anyone have any ideas of how to get it to go through? (yes, all phones I am talking about are on 3.1.2 with latest carrier update, and I am using AT&T)

Let me explain in more detail what is happening.

The computer I am doing this on is running Windows XP. I am trying to jailbreak an iPhone 2g (EDGE) 8GB. It was jailbroken and unlocked on FW 2.2.1, then 3.0, then 3.1. I followed the instructions and restored the phone with the latest iTunes to FW 3.1.2 and did the carrier settings update afterwards. I then started with blackra1n app.

I have tried:
Phone operating normally and just running blackrain
Phone operating normally, manually putting in DFU and running blackrain
Airplane mode and running blackrain
Airplane mode with manually putting it in DFU and running blackrain

All above methods have resulted with the phone going to the apple/usb splash screen then the screen goes black when blackrain states that it is uploading the image in the log file. There are no errors in the log file either, it looks as if it runs properly, and blackrain will pop up and say wait for phone to reboot. I have tried it with RC1, RC2, and RC3 with the same exact result on all.

i come from android and i am loving my iphone so much, but i need a couple of questions answering please.
my phone is jb on uk tmobile with 3.0 firmware, i understand that geohot has worked wonders again with his 3.1.2 jailbreak and unlock.
my questions are,

1. can apple or itunes ever see that im using a jb phone and do something to stop me using the store or lock my phone without me knowing ?

2. what is the correct way to run geo's new software, from what ive read on forums over here its been hit and miss with sucess and i think its down to people not following the correct procedure. at any point in the process do you have to take out your sim card ?

3. is 3.1.2 really worth the upgrade ?
