Heres what I did:

First, I downloaded the free app Fring from the app store. Secondly, you need to have a google voice number.

Using fring, I dialed my google voice number ### 577 $$$$. Wait for the call to connect. I entered my pin to get into my account, then hit 2 to dial a number. Call routes using my google voice number.

Now, I've only tested this on Wifi so far, and like I said I havent seen how if it shows up on my minute usage, but im thinking since its a fring call, it shouldn't. I'm only using my google voice number because some people have it in their phone, so at least they'll know its me calling because I dont know how a fring call shows up if your not in someones phonebook (if they dont have fring)

Once my usage updates, I'll update this thread and after I test it on 3G using unrestrictor.. If it works, it will be a very cool work around for those looking to save some minutes..

Update: It looks like the calls I made using fring and my google voice number went towards my night and weekend minutes, which would mean that those would go towards my daytime minutes had I made those calls during the day.

So it looks like Fring is out. I got Truphone next, I used to use it.. and VOIP by Icall but Icalls app is messing up and not letting me get past the setup stage, so I'll have to re-install the app.

The one thing I didn't like about att is when I signed up, i had to pay a hefty depoist for service. They told me with them your either on the high end of a deposit or a low end, there is no in between.


I don't know what all the compliants are about but personally, I have had great service and customer support so far with att. A few times, when things have been tight and I didn't think I'd be able to pay my bill on time, they were able to make a payment arraingment for me so my service wouldnt get disconnected and I wouldnt lose my deposit.

I just wanted to say that I have had a pretty good experince with att and the iphone.. Currently its at 900. I like having the a-list as it virtually ensures your never going to go over my minutes. However, things have changed (I won't be using my phone as much for voice) and I'm wondering if paying extra is worth it. I was pretty much only calling one person regurlarly and for any length, and we are no longer speaking. Yes, in case your wondering it is a female but hey things happen.

Soo.. Should i drop down to the 450 where I never went over, but generally fairly close to the cap, or should i keep the 900? I'm thinking seriously about this and need some input.. I just cant decide if its worth the extra gravy for the a-list.

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--AT&T Inc. (T) completed its $944 million acquisition of Centennial Communications Corp. (CYCL) on Friday, one day after receiving federal approval for the merger.

The Federal Communications Commission conditionally approved the merger Thursday evening. The two companies agreed to merge last November, with Centennial becoming a wholly-owned unit of AT&T. Centennial stockholders will receive $8.50 a share as a result of the deal.

AT&T shares recently rose 1 cent to $25.95.

The telecommunications companies say the merger will bring broader and faster wireless coverage to Centennial's customers in the Midwest, Southeast, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and help deploy more broadband Internet access to rural parts of the country.

As part of a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice, the companies will sell Centennial's wireless licenses and assets in eight areas in Louisiana and Mississippi. The licenses will be sold to one purchaser in each of three regions to retain their competitiveness. AT&T agreed in May to sell Centennial's assets in five areas to Verizon Communications Inc (VZ).

AT&T also promised to honor Centennial's current agreements with other carriers to provide roaming services to the end of their term. Any carrier with fewer than 10 million subscribers that has a roaming agreement with Centennial will be allowed to maintain those terms with AT&T for four years or the agreement's end.

AT&T will not have to sell its assets in Puerto Rico but agreed to limit the services it provides to America Movil (AMX), which competes with Centennial in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

FCC Commissioner Michael Copps concurred in the decision to approve the merger but cautioned that concentration of telecommunications companies doesn't always benefit consumers.

"Too many rural areas have been abandoned when the marriage didn't produce the big company profits sought by the market," Copps said in a statement.

"The addition of Centennial will enhance AT&T's assets in wireless--a strategic priority and one of our biggest growth drivers," Ralph de la Vega, president and chief executive officer of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, said in a statement on Friday.

AT&T expects to place its products and services at Centennial's mainland retail locations by January 2010 and take over Puerto Rico services later next year.
