If you have activated your iPhone (original,3G,3GS) without an authorized SIM card (i.e. Hacktivated) and are running OS 3.x, then your push functionality is probably not working. The existing fixes haven't worked because there was only one certificate that many people were sharing. For the push notification service to work, every device needs a unique 1024 bit certificate. The certificate does not contain any information about your device, so I can provide certificates without any information from your phone.

If you used blackra1n and have lost YouTube and/or GPS, my certs will also fix those. WiFi loss is fixed by Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Ok, so first off im fairly new to the forums so ello' all. I recently bought the Ihl30 iHome lamp off of woot after they advertised it as being used with an iphone. Turns out it's not meant for an iphone. It seems to work fullly charges with no problem with the exception of the "This accessory is not meant for the iphone...", now my main question is, if I leave my iphone 3gs plugged into the lamp and don't enable the airplane mode will this harm my iphone? The lamp does say that it works with the ipod touch

I'm trying to jailbreak my new 3GS. It's factory unlocked. Every time I run blackra1n (it has the newest [iBoot 359.3.2]) it will show Geohot's picture but then it reboots into restore mode leading to a full factory restore. Any suggestions on how to fix or what to do? Is this just because of the new iBoot?...

The external speaker to my friend's iPod touch which is about 11 months old isn't working. Headphones work though. I understand it's old but the volume was never abused. Do you think there is any way to fix it maybe by syncing or maybe a restore? Or do you think it's doomed? :(

South Africa. Unlocked Iphone 3G 2.2, bought in Apple store with Vodacom prepaid sim, could use my own MTN-sim instead, no probs. Pwned it to use some Cydia apps.
Today, tried upgrading to OS 3.1.2 with latest Pwntool, resulted in 'no carrier'. Tried several times, with same results.
Then, made different ipsw with 'activate' box unchecked (some post read that if you have no carrier this is likely why..), resulted in: only emergency calls available. in DFU mode Itunes thinks Iphone is an Ipod XD, so I can't load old 2.2 custom anymore.
How can I revrse out of this situation. Possible?? :confused:

Hello,

I recently got another iPhone 3g due to my previous one being broke. The owner of the iPhone before tried to unlock it and now the iPhone has no signal.I've tried many different ways to get this to work but it just says waiting for activation and doesnt seem to do anything.

Ive tried:

Full format
Restore in iTunes
Jailbreak then restore
Restore network settings

Now I read somewere that it could be something to do with the sim card not being activated on this iPhone , Yes it is a pay monthly sim card but could this really be the problem. I'm running 3.12 firmware if that makes a difference

Any advice on this issue is really appreciated as I desperate to get this phone working

AppleInsider revealed today a patent application, filed in May of last year, for a revolutionary new way of measuring pulse, body temperature and blood oxygen, all through the earbuds of your iPod or iPhone.

In an apparent effort to build on the success of the Nike+iPod sensor technology, the patent describes a method of obtaining information about your workout by emitting light from the earbud and using photodetectors to measure blood oxygen levels, body temperature, heat flux and heart rate.

From infrared radiation in the user's ear, sensors... can detect minute temperature variations due to the user's heart beats. Heart rate can be calculated based on time between beats and the user's temperature can be set as the 'DC Component' (or average or median value) of the detected temperature distribution. Other sensors can also be used for tracking the same physiological metrics or different physiological metrics.

The patent explains that the blood oxygen monitor would transmit LED light and "detect the portion of such light that passes through the user's earlobe, the remaining light having been absorbed within the user's earlobe. Other monitoring technology outlined in the patent includes a strap that would give more accurate measurements of heart rate and a wireless transmitter to sendthe data to an iPod or iPhone. The Nike+iPod Sports Kit is an existing application which measures and records the distance and pace of a walk or run. It consists of a small piezoelectric accelerometer that's embedded in a Nike shoe which communicates to either a separate receiver, or directly with a 2nd-gen iPod touch or an iPhone 3GS.

Battery drain on 3.1.2

Well, after about 3 days of work my iPhone is back to normal. I upgraded to 3.1.2, unlocked it, jail broke, installed most of my stuff back and restored most of my missing files.

But, I seem to notice a much higher then previous battery drain. My phone took about 40-45% of battery life just in full stand by over night. That's a bit much, ain't it?

I looked at all my running processes and everything seems normal and nothing out of the ordinary.

Any suggestions? Keeping my iPhone plugged in 24x7 is kinda lame.

Previous to this when I was on 2.1.? the phone lasted all day just fine with fairly heavy use, but all the sudden this.

Restoring 1st gen iPhone 2.1

I have a first generation iPhone version 2.1.
It's jailbroken, but not unlocked.
I like to restore and update/upgrade the phone to the latest version.
So, if I restore the phone, via iTunes then update/install everything, will I be able to us it again, or will it be locked?? What would be the consequences ? What, if anything will be lost, besides Cydia?
Any hints and tips would be appreciated.

File trans fer questions for text and pdf

I have finally figured out the winscp program for wifi transfer. I wanted to transfer some micro/word text and pdf files to the iphone and use quickoffice to acess and read them. is this ok to do without the mobileme account and idisk system. i do not know where to transfer the file to on the iphone (what storage file on the phone). my winscp only showed some of the apps, not the ones from other sources than app store.
hope this qustion makes sense.
Where do i put the files on the phone for access in the phone, and can i store them on the phone for reference when needed?

Attention Hits Hack in 10.6.2 Enabling Atom Support

Even though some discovered this information weeks ago, only now is it widely coming to light as high-traffic news and rumor sources like 9to5Mac are finally promoting word that Atom support can be enabled by a hack in 10.6.2. And while this news doesn't come as a major shock to anyone, it is somewhat surprising how quickly a fix has come along to effectively "work around" the decision by Apple to drop support for Atom processors in OS X 10.6.2 - a move that effectively killed Hackintosh netbooks.

A Russian hacker was able to slap an old Atom-supporting OSX Kernel on the newer Mac OS 10.6.2 build and get it running on his little Atom netbook. Depending on how much Apple cares, we'll probably see this shut down in 10.6.3. Rinse. Repeat.

Cydia Stuck Reloading Data!!

Last night I removed 'rockapp' from Cydia, where in changes said there was an update.
But well...I should not have done that, I guess...
Right after that Cydia went into the Reloading Data thing and...it never got out of it. It is still doing that.
Cannot turn it off with the turn-off button or anything!

Battery might be almost empty by now (don't think it is charging), I do not know as it still says 72% (whole screen is stuck apparently, except the waiting icon which still turns, plus another one that does not move).

Anyone got any idea how I can get this iphone working again?
Preferably with no loss of data, of course.

ADDENDUM

...finally (re)installed rockapp again, from the pc. That made the iphone reboot again.
And all seems okay now.
Well except that I still got rockapp...

Help needed Jailbreak 3.1.2. troubles with Itunes and apps Syncen

I have jailbroken my iphone 3G. I had firmware 3.0 and i upgraded it to 3.1.2 and than ran BlackRa1n and its JB now.

Only problem i now have is that a lot of my apps that are in the itunes library won't sync with my iphone. I get this pop-up:

The Progam isnt installed on the iphone because a unknow error occured (0xE8008001)

Can somebody help me please?

i have a 16g 3g iphone with a 3.1.2 firmware running..i restore my fone recently like a couple of days with blackra1n and i found out that for some reason it wont let me put some songs on my iphone..so the easy way around was to restore it and jailbreak it with blackra1n again..but for some reason it would let me restore my iphone now the error says "ITUNES HAS DETECTED AN IPHONE IN RECOVERY MODE.
YOU MUST RESTORE THIS IPHONE BEFORE IT CAN BE USED WITH ITUNES" but i couldnt access the restore button..XP windows pc

i did all the tricks to let phone restore..the relocating the usb cable to other port and etc..still it wont let me..it even detected the usb and itunes logo but there no were to be found the restoring button..

hello guy this happen to me last nite n i have now idea how my phone just pop up this MSG saying that i cannot make or receive calls n that i needed to connect to itunes..after i did that it gave me this error: "itunes cannot activate your iphone because the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM PIN is required" "Disconnect your iphone, make sure the SIM card is inserted correctly and, if you use a SIM PN, tap Unlock to enter it, and then reconnect your iphone".....

i did what it asked but nothing i tryed to restore to 3.1.2 with out luck :( all i get is that unknown error 23 and im stuck there....

In the game you will touch the direction switches (the yellow arrows) on the conveyer to let the right food go to the corresponding animals:

Unable to Restore phone - unable to use iPhone

Yesterday my phone shut itself off, restarted with the apple logo and then to when it ot past the logo, it shut itself off again. turning my phone back on would produce the same issue. Eventually I tried running redsn0w again, but when redsn0w got past the DFU screen and claimed it was jailbreaking my phone, it hung at the point where it said it was rebooting and never gave me the next screen.

I would love to restore my iPhone and just upgrade to the newest firmware and use BlackRain for my next Jailbreak but I am getting error 13. I have tried this on several machines and on my computer creating a new user profile. Currently I have a brick for a phone and I would love to be up and running again.

I had used redsnOw for my last jailbreak and it's been working fine on version 3.0.1 on my 3G phone.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have a laptop with windows vista and i have the time capsule connect to my imac thru ethernet cable. I connected the laptop to the network and it shows that the signal is excellent but it keeps connecting and disconnecting every 5 minutes. I can't get a stable connection and I can't figure it out. I'm using WPA/WPA 2 Personal.

I had a jailbroken and unlocked 3G running on the stock 3.0.1 it came with from the factory. I then restored to 3.1.2 and installed blackrain. However, when I run snow, it just stays at the install screen and never completes. When I try to install cydia, it just downloads it then goes back to the iPhone's main menu. Am I screwed?

To install:
1) make sure you have the following plug-in installed: Lockscreen Clock hide; Five Icon Dock; iBlank; Blanknull
2) To obtain the effect shown in the preview, u have to download two files, one is the theme which I will post a SlingFile link for you guys to download, another one is for the modified SnowCover which is in the attachment at the bottom of this post.
3) SSH these two folders(of course have to be unzipped) to Private/Var/Stash/Themes using WinSCP or Cyberduck(mac)
4) select both of them in the WinterBoard
5) Create the blank icons to make the screen effects which I have shown in the Orbit Expose view, it's really easy to do that

QuickWidgets is one app from package QuickBoard. Now QuickBoard is contains from 4 apps. There sre QuickSMS, QuickBirthday, Calendar and QuickWidgets.

How it works? It is very simple.

You install QuickBoard from Cydia and some standart widgets are appeard on your LockScreen.

Some RockApp thoughts

Hi. I recently noticed an update for zodttd's snes4iphone on Cydia, which I already had installed and working on my 3GS for some time and ran just about any ROM I threw at it just fine.

Perhaps I should have read the notes a little closer, as when the update installed, I could see another app being installed called RockApp (Rock Your Phone.) So, being curious about what was changed in snes4iphone, I opened it, only to be greated with a login that was not required to identify yourself to Rock App. Not knowing much about RockApp, I decided for the time being to uninstall it, but it turned out doing so always removed snes4iphone - "What the hell ??!", I thought.

Now, I am all for progress and seeing newer, better things. Cydia is great IMHO, but theres always room for improvement. There appear to be many great aspects to RockApp, such as speed, able to keep track and backup what you've installed. But, what seems to worry me is that, much like Valve Software's Steam service, paid programs seem to require some sort of authentication before you can use them, even programs like the snes emulator which otherwise requires no active Internet connection.

Like Steam, this imposes external control over some software that you wish to run, and this is something I am always weary of. I always believed this was the biggest problem with Steam, that it was forced on players of Valve's games as a requirement when it should have been a suppliment - there when you want and need it, but not if you don't. It is even required for single player games that otherwise need no 'net connection.

I really hope RockApp does not end up becoming the same sort of thing - a mode of control over software. Maybe I've been using coputers for too damn long, but I prefer to be in control of what I run on a given computer I own.

I welcome any comments, corrections and other thoughts on anything I have put forth here. I harbor no ill will towards the authors of RockApp, zodttd, or any other author. I applaud them and others for many of their contributions.

Probably not many will understand my problem. I have a 7 year old,A928 notebook called a IBUDDIE and made by ECS.It is pent4,1g ram,running XP sp2. So I have an old 1st gen iPhone running 2.4.something firmware. I haven't updated in ages simply because I didn't want the hassle of re-jailbreaking and unlocking my phone.

Anyway, it's about time for me to update. I've heard that you can only unlock and jailbreak the iphone 3.0 firmware, does anyone know where I can get that firmware? And maybe a guide to get it all done? I know there are guides here but they don't explain where to get 3.0 firmware.

I installed Stack for the first time, and didn't want any of the default apps in the stack so I removed them, now I can't add anything to the stack, did I screw it up? I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling but after the reinstall the stack is still empty and still can't add to it, as if some setting is left over from the previous installtion. It's driving me crazy.

I installed Winterboard and when Cydia asked me to reboot, it crashed and wouldn't boot up. So I had to do the BlackRa1n jb all over again. The solution to the WB install was to press the home button instead of the Cydia reboot prompt and shutting down/restarting with the power button. Later on, I read that the problem came from the "restore from backup" that I did for my contacts and data, etc. Someone also posted that you should set up as new iPhone first, and then restore from backup. Is this correct? Will I have to bypass the reboot prompt from Cydia and use the power button shutdown/restart method anytime I install a Cydia app? YouTube app doesn't connect at the moment but everything else appears OK. Also, I bootneutered, though I'm not sure if it was necessary. Thanks in advance.

I have iPhone 3G 3.1.2 firmware. I just ran Blackrain & snow. I've always been annoyed that the Outlook mail feature on my phone is really basic & not very user friendly. As a result I rarely have my mail pushed to my cell. It seems after I got my 2 work email accounts up & running on my phone the messages come through fine, but there is no ways to:
-File mail into multiple folders.
-Create new permanent Folders.
-Create rules or filters.

I pretty much have : Inbox, Sent & Trash.
I used a nice 3rd party app Ibis mail & it has a great full featured email system. But like all apps every time I update firmware I lose it & the setting. My brother got a 3GS about 3 months ago. His iphone Outlook has a lot of different folders ect..

-Did I set up my iphone Outlook wrong at 1st?
-Is the 3GS use of Outlook that much better than 3G?
-Are there any ways to enhance my iphone Outlook features/ service on my cell?

I know that currently, 3.1.2 only has a tethered jailbreak. My brother has an Ipod Touch 32GB Third Generation, and I was wondering if it is possible to downgrade this to a firmware that has an untethered jailbreak? Lockinfo & nativematte question/help

Hello. I have searched to try and find the answer to my question with no success. hopefully i am posting in the correct area. if not please accept my apologies.

I am having a small problem with the lockinfo theme nativematte. as you can see from this screenshot, i have the basics down, but for some reason, i still have the large clock at the top. from the screenshots on the theme launch on macthemes, the developer shows the theme not having that large clock, but having the smaller clock (half way down on my screenshot) on the top. i do have the Clock Plugin for Lockinfo installed. Any thoughts?

Also, any help on why i cannot get weathericon to work would be helpful as well. as you can see, i just get the '?'. no data and no temp...I have weathericon installed and Klear Weather Icon active in winterboard.

I've searched and only found that photos can be sent from the iphone to the computer wirelessly (has to be connected to the same network etc.), but not vice versa.

I option+restored to 3.0.1 (from 3.0.1...just have a bug displaying my photo library), but got the message: "Your iPhone is not eligible for the requested build."

I tried downloading 3.0.1 from two other sources, and now I'm getting this error message: "...could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible."

The only reason I haven't just done a complete restore is because I don't want to lose tethering by "automatically upgrading" to 3.1.

I installed MyWi and everything seems fine, except that when my computer sees the connection and tries to connect it shows local only! It identifies the connection correctly, but I can not go online...

The iPhone has the blue border and MyWi shows an up and down speed, but the computer will not connect to the internet! Additionally the only way to "stop" the tethering is too turn the iphone off and back on. Unless I do that, the border remains blue and MyWi shows up and down speeds even though there is no connection to the puter....

Any suggestions?

I updated in itunes as the new jb was out. But I 3.0.x was working a lot smoother for me. Any ideas what I can do? I tried using a ipsw i had for 3.0.x but it was erroring out in itunes. I am not at my computer at the moment so I am not sure exactly on numbers but i am sure any late 3.0.x will do :)

So my buddy jailbroke his phone using BR. I was installing some stuff for him and had to reboot. So i shut the phone off and turn it back on.

The Apple logo showed up for 15-20 seconds and then disappeared. hitting the home button does nothing. I can press and hold the power button and the logo will come back,then go away after 15-20 seconds?

Any Ideas

After a long wait in Apple-approval limbo, Trillian for iPhone is now available for purchase on the App Store. The makers of the slick multiservice IM client waited three months, with no word up or down from Apple, before the okay came through yesterday.

While chat windows somewhat evoke the look and feel of Messages, the functionality far outstrips what comes in Apple's standard SMS client. The iPhone version, like the popular desktop program, allows for multiple IM connections to be managed and used in a single app. Unlike the desktop version, though, all connections are handled through Trillian's Astra network. Trillian for iPhone is always connected to the Astra server, which allows instant sync between different clients running on different platforms. If you change your avatar or display name on your iPhone, for example, the change is immediately propagated to your Windows client as well as your online Astra Profile. Adding a contact on the iPhone app, also adds a contact on the Mac program, conveniently allowing a consistent way to manage settings.

Back in August, around the time of the notorious Google Voice non-rejection rejection, Cerulean submitted the Trillian for iPhone app to Apple. The developers noted that they hadn't gotten any rejection or objection from Apple in all that time.

having an issue with Quick Reply for sms. Everything seems to be working except for the pop up text messages. I can do a quick compose but new texts never pop up during other apps. They just show as a new message over the messages icon on SB. Anyone have any idea what could be blocking this functionality? I've tried quickSMS and biteSMS ...same problem. I'm thinking it might have something to do with Mobile substrate but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all,

Ive been having problems with my Itunes Syncing with my iphone.

Whenever it starts to sync my photos ( 5000 + ).. it crashes.. CPU at 100%...

After 2 days of trying to figure out i deleted the Ipod Photo Cache directory and retried the sync... It then synced fine.

It seems that if the sync is stopped during a sync the directory is created and then the next time when it trys to start.. It freezes.. i delete the directory and its fine..

Has anyone seen this before? im on the latest version of itunes...

Multitasking without Backgrounder?

The company had originally stated that their product would support the devices, but at the time of the October release only iPhones with GPS receivers were compatible.

The new version also features a new text-to-speech function, so the driver can pay attention to the roads while the app announces street names as turns are reached. It also allows the driver to control iPod music from within the app, rather than having to switch in and out of iPod mode. There's improved lane guidance in both landscape and portrait mode, direct access to emergency numbers with the "Help Me" function, a database update to its map and safety camera database update, and customizable audio warnings while approaching safety cameras or driving faster than the speed limit.

The update is free to owners of earlier versions of the app, which sells with U.S. and Canada maps in the App Store for $99. Maps are also available for Western Europe ($139.99), Australia ($79.99) and New Zealand ($94.99).

A company spokesman said that the upgrade is part of an ongoing process of adding functionality to the app.

Need Help Unlocking

I was given a 1 gen Iphone and I used blackra1n to jailbreak it. It will not let me use my sim to finish unlock through the Blackra1n app installed on the phone. When I put my sim in it shows I have a new voicemail but no signal. itunes recognizes my phone perfectly. I used my friends sim to try it out and his sim is a reg sim with his iphone and still no signal. what did I do wrong? This phonr had been unlocked previously and was using t-mobile sim when I got it. I had to restore because the screen lock code was forgotten. Before restore my sim got a signal when inserted into the iphone. Please help. I want more out of this phone then a ipod with camera

Phishers Prep Apple Attack?

An article on 9to5mac yesterday has a lot of people talking today, as the prospect of a new Mac attack from phishers allegedly looms on the horizon. Although Macs have a mostly pristine imagine for being resistant to virus attacks, phishers are slowly and steadily taking aim at Apple products.

The email (image above) also carries a stuffed file. I can personally confirm from my own sources that there is, in fact, an email in circulation that, like reported, reads: �We recorded a payment request from �Apple Inc.� to enable the charge of $7,548.45 on your account.� As you can imagine, those who click on the attachment to "stop the transaction" open up a world of hurt for their OS.

This news, while unfortunate, serves as a healthy reminder for us all that Macs and iPhones are not impervious to phishing and the harsh consequences that result from its successful inroads. According to the same report from 9to5mac, a survey of 1,003 people commissioned by security firm ESET "found that most cybercrime losses are caused by phishing attacks, and users are equally at risk to these attempts, whatever the OS."

As a result, iPhone users are being warned to avoid accessing password-protected sites on a public WiFi network. Just Unlocked w/ BlkRain & now Contact pics won't save

I just finished jailbreaking and unlocking with blackrain. my mms wasnt working and after reading around for a bit i was able to fix it by downloading T-Mobile US carrier Postpaid/Flexpay from Tweaks in Cydia. now after installing and restarting, everytime i try to save a picture for a contact it saves it for a sec then as soon as i go back to the home screen it erases it as soon i try and open up the contact again. :confused::confused:

Lost email settings options

Original 2 email addresses working ok, but cannot add or delete.
Calendar and contacts working ok from application, but none of these three appear in "Settings"

Anyone had this before, or know of an easy fix, please ??

Battery case not working? :/

Hi guys!

I bought myself a Mophie battery case 2 months ago. It has been working without trouble all time, but doing this week, it stopped working?
The case charges as normal, the indicator lights show up, and the iPhone vibrates & shows the charging battery when i plug it in...
But still, the iPhone does not gain any battery? It still loses as it normally would?

My iPhone is jailbroken and have been so since before i got that case, but i was thinking if a new cydia app or something could have effected it? Or what can have gone wrong since it charges normally through usb cable? :)

Ps. it's an iPhone 3g[s] on 3.0.1

I live in Denmark (Europe), but is on exchange in Australia for 10 months (Been here 5, so 5 more to go).

I had planned to buy a macbook pro to bring down here, but my host family wouldn't allow me to bring a mac, so it would be stupid to buy one.
Now where i'm at another family, which all have their own laptops, and wouldn't mind if i got one. I was thinking about buying one, because now i have only been able to borrow theres every once in a while.

I used to use my computer alot, have never had a laptop before though, but i do need one for studying when i go back to Denmark.

So would it be stupid to buy one now? When they possibly release new ones before i go home?(Anyone who now if they are gonna release any? i'm back at 1 of may) And that the ones there's here now might be cheaper when i come back?

I do feel that i need one, but also feel that i could wait till i go back. The bad thing about buying it now, would be that my family would have to send all the way down here...

RadTech ARC Hard Shell Case for 3G / 3GS

Rad-tech sells some of the coolest products out there today. I’ve been a fan for a while, so when I finally was able to convince the wife to let me upgrade to a 3G (Yes, still a model behind, story of my life) I ordered 2 cases before even receiving the phone. This is the story of the first case I received, which is the ARC Hard Shell case for the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

First off, the case feels amazing, it’s smooth, but not slippery smooth. The case itself wraps around the sides, but doesn’t quite cover the bezel completely, and the fit is great, nice and snug with no wiggle or loose feeling. The site claims it slides in and out of pockets easily, and I can verify that this is exactly why I love this case. The grip works well, but it still drops in and out of pockets with no problems at all.

I have dropped it a couple of times, but not onto cement or anything hard. That being said, it still held nicely to the phone and only had a black “rub” mark on it, which came right off. My only complaint has to do with the bottom half of the case. The “button” used to release it from the rest is quite tight, and does not easily come off for docking. Also, the side flanges on it are VERY thin, and it’s easy for them to slip to the outside while assembling, possibly breaking them off.

Overall, aside from the minor quibbles, which aren’t deal breakers in any way, this case is fantastic, and one that I used for quite awhile before switching around to something different (I’m a bit of a case nerd too). While there are some minor issues with the case design this is a great option, especially in the category of affordable cases.

I have a jailbroken, unlocked 3G, currently on 3.0 firmware with 4.26.08 baseband. I only have access to Windows XP.

My question is, can I jailbreak to firmware 3.1 (not 3.1.2) using custom firmware with iTunes 8.2 on Windows XP... and then, will I be able to unlock (for an unauthorized carrier) using ultrasn0w, successfully?

I have seen a lot of different problems, especially with Windows users, and I don't want to risk turning my iPhone into an iPod Touch! :D

Itunes won't recognize Iphone, even after restore

I've restored my Iphone 3G 3.1.2 about five times now and Itunes still prompts me that it cannot read it and I should restore it to factory settings. Before this I've had no problems, I unlocked it using blacksn0w and jailbroke with blackra1n. I can do all of that again, the slate is wiped clean but Itunes still won't recognize it. I've rebooted and even tried different USB ports. Help?

Rotation Lock Issue

3G on 3.0.1. Installed rotation lock - it doesn't give me the option to select preferred orientation (holding down the button in sbsettings). If I enable lock - it locks portrait. It will also lock landscape if I am already in an app. But once I shut the app down it defaults back to locking portrait. Any ideas? Reinstalled once. Thanks!

I hope I'm in the right place. I have iPhone 3G 3.1.2 firmware. I just ran Blackrain & snow. I've always been annoyed that the Outlook mail feature on my phone is really basic & not very user friendly. As a result I rarely have my mail pushed to my cell. It seems after I got my 2 work email accounts up & running on my phone the messages come through fine, but there is no ways to:
-File mail into multiple folders.
-Create new permanent Folders.
-Create rules or filters.

I pretty much have : Inbox, Sent & Trash.
I used a nice 3rd party app Ibis mail & it has a great full featured email system. But like all apps every time I update firmware I lose it & the setting. My brother got a 3GS about 3 months ago. His iphone Outlook has a lot of different folders ect..

-Did I set up my iphone Outlook wrong at 1st?
-Is the 3GS use of Outlook that much better than 3G?

Learning to make iPhone Apps with the SDK

I have been trying for some time to learn hoe to program Objective-C so that I can make an app, but now I am starting to want to learn even more, so I was wondering if anyone here knows of a book, website, etc. that could help me learn about iphone SDK programming. I already have iPhone Application Development for Dummies and that book relies on you having some previous knowledge of programming, so it didn't really help, I have watched many videos on YouTube and they taught me well but none of them taught me what I need to learn. I've already downloaded the SDK and I have also looked through Apple's Resources. Any suggestions on learning from scratch?

Analysts discuss the Apple Tablet Features

Following news that Apple has been touting its rumoured tablet around media outlets, in order to encourage them to adopt the platform, it has now emerged that Apple has been showing the new device to analysts.

ITIC analyst Laura DiDio has claimed that the Apple tablet will come in several different models featuring a 10-12in screen, it will offering a variety of internet connections from Wi-Fi to 3G, and will offer a webcam for video conferencing.

She told CNN:

Quote:

"The tablet will change the game, because Apple will throw down the gauntlet at the competitors, and force them to follow along."

Senior CNET editor Dan Ackerman concurred with DiDio's assessment.

Quote:

"Apple will come out with the tablet and blow everyone away," said Ackerman. "Instead of taking along a Kindle and an iPod, that [tablet] could become the device you carry with you."

In October, the Sydney Morning Herald revealed that Apple has sent specifications of the device to the companies in an effort to sound out whether they would be interested in delivering their content to the tablet.

That report claimed however:

During the speech, Keller made a reference to the Times' strategy for mobile devices.

However, David Wertheimer, executive director of the University of Southern California's Entertainment Technology Center, admitted that he found it hard to "comprehend" how the tablet would replace all other mobile tech products.

In addition, a patent has recently emerged for what could be described as an Apple Tablet. Apple has filed a patent with the US Patent & Trademark office for a computer system where data is entered via a pen-based input. The accompanying images certainly hint that this is the outline for the eagerly anticipated Apple Tablet.

iPhone: Loved IT!!!! but Don't Miss It

a couple of weeks ago i finally had it with a call i dropped with a client that was ultra important and had to make the decision to finally get another phone. it was not easy since i am a mac guy with a mobile me account way before it was called mobile me.

i live in a metro city not rural and i would drop about 20% of my calls and way to often i would go to make a call and get that dreaded tone and look at the phone and see the option to "call back" and hot that until my fingers bleed and it just wouldn't make a call. this has been the case with my 2G, 3G, and 3GS and it has only gotten worse not better.

i started thinking that i was with Verizon for 6 years and i can say with 100% certainty that i dropped more calls on the iPhone EVERY week then i did with Verizon in 6 years.

it will be almost 2 weeks back with Verizon again and ZERO dropped calls or problems completing a call and this fact alone has made me not miss the iPhone at all anymore.

i choose to go with the DROID and although like any phone or phone OS it has it positives and negatives but the overall performance difference as just a phone and relying on its abilities to make and hold onto a call has been great. i am not making a stance for the DROID because i could have picked from a number of phones that interested me on Verizon its just what i happened to pick.

some other great things besides not dropping calls that i had forgotten how much i love is not having to JB the device to get it to do what i want like separate ringtones for every alert from individual email accounts to text messages etc... i make them, put them on the phone, and assign them to everything i want.

if you are in a situation like me and love the iPhone but need that dependability for calls i highly recommend taking a look at an Android based phone. the app store for it has most of the big name apps the iPhone store does and a ton they would never allow. if you haven't taken a look at an Android phone you should.

i look forward to the day when i can return to the iPhone and the carrier is not important but being able to make calls and not drop them is.

i will still be looking around here as my wife would break my fingers if i tried to take her iPhone away :)

Anyway, two backgrounds are included with this theme, the Photoshop files are included too, so modding the shadows and background are easy.

"First iPhone Reality Show" to Give Away 3GSes

In what's touted as the "first iPhone reality show," the development company Command Guru will invite a team of ten international developers to create a new iPhone application in seven days: December 6th through 12th, 2009. The project will be filmed for a reality television show to be broadcast across Europe, and will be available via live stream on Command Guru's site, www.commandguru.com.

The app planned by the Italian organizers is described as "a unique Sexy Social Network application." In an interesting twist to the "reality show" concept, the source code will also be available on a public SVN server so that viewers can suggest improvements. When complete, the app will be submitted for inclusion on the iTunes App Store, and be available for free when it finally clears Apple's review process.

Alessio Zito Rossi, founder and CEO of Command Guru, said (or apparently shouted) in a press release about the event: "There are over 100,000 Apps and millions of users who do not have any idea of how they are developed! The stork doesn't deliver iPhone Apps! We will show the world how they are really born - live and streaming!"

Aaron Hillegass, Cocoa training expert and CEO of Big Nerd Ranch, was chosen to lead a group of app developers from all over the world, including USA, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, China and New Zealand. On December 5th, their names will be disclosed on the Command Guru website. The developers will interact with users via the website and the Twitter feed @commandguru.

To publicize the event, Command Guru is giving away three unlocked iPhone 3GSes, one per week, to people who follow the Twitter feed and retweet the event announcement on their own feeds. You can go to the event page to sign up.

[Release] Leopard Login Lock Screen Password v3

With the release of Gi-lo's SnowLock comes new possibilities for lock screens. This is the 3rd version of my Leopard Login Lock Screen and takes it to a new level. To unlock, simply slide the white home button over the blue and input your password.

Photoshop file is included for easy customization of name and wallpaper. Names already included are "iPhone", "iPod Touch", "Admin", "User", and a blank name.

*For this to work SnowLock must be installed from Cydia
*At the moment SnowLock is only compatible with 3.1.x firmware

Advice on brand new 3Gs unlocking

Hi,

I'm running a 3 month old 3gs on 3.1.2 with the latest baseband unlocked with Blackra1n and Blacksn0w. Now my problem is that i seem to have a hardware problem with my iPhone. No matter what baseband or software version i use my phone constantly crashes and resets itself and has twice now crashed to the point that it needs a total restore. Now i think i have got to the point that i need to send it to apple to get it repaired or replaced.

My question is this, i read a while ago that the latest 3Gs are shipped out with a brand new Bootrom that cannot be jailbroken or cant be jailbroken in the same way that has been used since the phone came out. So if i send my phone away and it gets replaced with a brand new one does this mean i wont be able to install blackra1n/blacksn0w?

Can't receive MMS or email from computer/web

Hi, I'm new to this.

I have a iPhone 2G 3.1.2 unlocked with the latest Blackra1n (I believe). I am running T-Mobile prepaid.

I have been able to send messages and receive messages from other phones. But when I send a message to the iPhone from a web page like those free SMS sites or emailing to my xxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net, I cannot receive any of them. It used to work on my old Motorola phone.

Am I missing something? And I apologize if this is a well known fact that I'm not aware of. I'm a newbie to this.

To all you complaining about pwnage not being as easy as blackra1n.... this is how we used to jailbreak 1.1 firmware and add the equivalent of cydia. :D
(and this was easier than 1.0 fw by far. Who remembers the yellow triangle of death? :D)

Downgrade to v1.0.2 This step is optional. If you're running 1.0.2 already, you can skip this step.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. The phone should shut down.
When the phone shuts down, release the Sleep/Wake button but continue holding Home
Wait until iTunes recognizes the iPhone. The screen will appear to be off, but iTunes will eventually recognize the iPhone. When it does, let go.
A message will appear telling you to restore. Click OK
Using your favorite browser, download the v1.0.2 software from this location. You may need to rename to .ipsw if it comes as a .zip
Back in iTunes, hold Option on the Mac or Shift on the PC while clicking Restore. Navigate to the software you downloaded and select it.
The phone will restore, but it will fail. This is normal.
Your iPhone should show a yellow triangle. Run Nullriver's AppTapp. It should bring you back to the Activation step on the phone and show an error in the application. Disregard the error.
Run AppTapp again and it should succeed.
If not using an AT&T SIM, use INdependence to activate your iPhone. That's it!
Create Symlink
If you haven't already, install Nullriver's AppTapp
Go to iTunes Store - Conceited Software in iPhone's Safari. Tap "Yes" to add to Installer
Plug iPhone in and open iTunes. Make sure it's recognized before proceeding
Using Installer, install "Trip1Prepz" located under "System"
Upgrade to v1.1.1
In iTunes click "Upgrade" and not Restore. Restoring will ruin our progress.
Once upgraded to 1.1.1, close iTunes
Jailbreak
Download iPHUC and friends from Rapidshare
Extract the contents so that iphuc, fstab, and iphonefs are all on the Desktop
If you don't have libreadline, download it and extract the zip to your Macintosh HD
Open Terminal.app located in Applications>Utilities
Type cd ~/Desktop and hit return
Type ./iphuc and hit return
Type getfile /dev/rdisk0s1 iphonefs/rdisk0s1 314572800 and hit return. This will take about five minutes so grab something to drink in the meantime. Once complete, there will be a file named "rdisk0s1" in your "iphonefs" folder
Add .dmg to the end of the file. It should end up being rdisk0s1.dmg
Double click the file to mount it
Open the newly mounted Snowbird3A109a.UserBundle drive and open the "etc" folder. Replace the fstab file inside the "etc" folder with the supplied fstab file.
Unmount the image
Back in Terminal, assuming that you've kept iPHUC up and running, type putfile iphonefs/rdisk0s1.dmg /dev/rdisk0s1 and hit return. This will take another minute or so. When it's finished, reboot the iPhone. You're jailbroken!
Install SSH
Download iNdependence from its Google code page here
Open iNdependence and go to the "SSH" tab
Click "Install SSH/SFTP/SCP" and follow the instructions. It will ask to reboot the iPhone several times
When you're done, SSH into your iPhone from the Terminal by typing ssh -l root your.iphones.ip.address. When asked the password is alpine. If it gives a fuss, you may need to remove the "known_hosts" file from /Users/YourUser/.ssh/
Accept the key by typing yes and hitting return if asked. Leave the window open.
Open your favorite FTP (I recommend CyberDuck) client and log in using your iPhone's IP address, root for the username and alpine for the password. Make sure to use SFTP and not plain old FTP
If you're not already there, navigate to /var/root and rename Media to Media_sym
Rename MediaBackup to Media. Keep the FTP and SSH windows open.
Open iTunes and allow it to activate. If it doesn't recognize your phone, reboot it and/or restart iTunes.
Install AppTapp
Download Nullriver's AppTapp
Right click or control click AppTapp Installer and click "Show Package Contents". Navigate to Contents>Resources
Using the FTP application, copy Installer.app from the Resources folder into the Applications folder on your iPhone
Back in the terminal, SSH into your iPhone again (if you're not already), give the comand chmod -Rf +x /Applications/ and hit return.
Slide to unlock your iPhone then type /Applications/Installer.app/Installer and hit return to launch Installer.
After AppTapp opens, press control+c to close it
Open Safari on iPhone and navigate to iTunes Store - Conceited Software
Tap yes to add it to Installer
Back in terminal, using ssh, type /Applications/Installer.app/Installer and hit return to launch Installer again.
Install Trip1PogoStick located under the "System" category to enable scrolling and applications.
When you're done, reboot the iPhone and close all your windows. You now have AppTapp.

MMS with Audio

I've searched the forums and could be missing it but i'm wondering if anyone has the same problem i do. I'm using 3g on 3.0 & 4.26.08.
I can send and receive pics but when i receive pics that have any kind of audio with them the audio file comes separate. In other words i receive one mms and when i open it up it has the pic but if the pic come with any type of audio its separated from the pic. the last one i got has the pic which is supposed to have sound but the audio was a media3.vnd and had to be played separate from the pic. Does anyone know what i'm talking about?

what i would like is for the background of my lockscreen to change every 5 minutes or so to any of the 288 wallpapers i have on my ipod..

i have tried this which is pretty old:

Yes, I stupidly forgot the long password I made and now even when I re-install (uninstall then install) it still stays locked.

Any way around this other than restoring phone completely?

I never really announced the launch of this theme, but the latest update (1.1.1) should stick around for a while.

BR Vid-Phon is a Winterboard theme based on the payphones from the movie Blade Runner.

It has System sounds, Ringtone, SBSettings, Calculator, MMS, Lockscreen, Springboard, Icons, Categories icons and wallpapers and a few other things. Requires iBlank, and Lockscreen Clock Hide.

For now the carrier logo only changes if you are on AT&T (sorry rest of world!) unless you manually rename the files yourself. There is also a matching boot screen, if you want to go to the trouble of building a new ipsw.

3Gs Usage Not Working Anymore

I have a jailbroken 3Gs and if anyone is familiar with the Settings>General>Usage screen then they know this screen shows how much you've used your phone since it's last charge. Now after jailbreaking this feature no longer keeps track of my usage, AND YES I AM CHARGING THE PHONE FIRST TO 100%. If someone could explain to me if this issue is common or fixable I would much appreciate it.

Also, to remove third party apps from a iPhone if I back it up using iTunes and then do a restore I am guessing that this will remove my jailbroken apps etc and return the phone to its "stock" condition?
