Default MMi not Updating Cydia Source
I'm a big fan of using Cydia packager, and try to use it for every package available via Cydia.

I've noticed over the past 10 days or so that MMi has been releasing new apps and updates on their Nullriver Installer source but not for Cydia.

I was wondering if this was permanent or if they are just too busy? It would mean a lot to me if (and I hope others), if they could maintain their Cydia source as well.

    Thanks,

    Joe

It's not that simple. The Unix Subsystem is so far superior to anything else, it actually works. Keep in mind you can't even use the passwd command with the standard BSD subsystem. The only way this kind of project can really move forward and implement new features is by supporting it, and actually using it. It's not that kind "lol" mentality that will help it get anywhere.

Don't lose hope thinking that people are still working on it- if you want to keep updated, you should join Saurik's IRC channel; grab on to little bits of news there.

Thanks for the support. I'll check out the IRC channel. On another note, do you know if MMi will continue maintaining their Cydia source? I would hate to have to go back to Installer for MMi hosted packages.

Does anyone from MMi have any news as to why packages on Cydia are not being updated?

Thanks a lot. I think it's important that Cydia users don't feel left out of new software and updates so we can keep supporting the adoption and development of Cydia. I'm hoping one day it can really become the replacement for Installer.

This is stupid, having 2 programs that do the exact same thing; they both install apps. Like Ive been saying since Cydia launch day, why not just combine the apps to make 1 great app instead of an app with features but no packages and one that has slightly fallen behind but has all the packages?

Well actually if you think about it, Nullriver had pretty much given up on any significant improvements to AppTapp Installer. Now that Cydia has been released, if you look at the Nullriver Installer front page when you open the app, they talk of "upcoming improvements". What it's done is created competition and pushed Nullriver to improve their dinosaurish application.

I don't agree that they should combine, that will remove the spirit of competition, and why would Saurik team up with Nullriver, when Nullriver doesn't even really invest any time in improving their apps anymore... It would only hurt the the iPhone community.

    Just my opinion...

By the way, I have faith that Cydia will be updated in the near future to include a source add/remove UI. It cannot continue this way, it just takes time as Cydia/Telesphoreo is fairly new.
