Cydia Essential Upgrade Error & error reinstalling MobileTerminal
Hello everyone,
I am running a tethered jailbreak iphone 3GS with version 4.3.5.
Everything has been going fine until recently I was asked to update Cydia. It fails to update and then MobileTerminal and a few other utilities went out and won't update.
I had deleted Big Boss, Activator, and a few other mods a time earlier, but I don't see how that could have caused the file damage.
Here is what is displayed when I update Cydia:
Preparing Core Utilities (/bin)
unpacking replacement coreutils-bin...
failed in buffer_write(id)(7, ret=-1)
Preparing Core Utilities (/bin)
Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Whenever I try to install a utility I get the an error in dpkg
I tried rejailbreaking with redsnow 0.9.9b3a to reinstall Cydia but to no avail.
I am considering manual trying to replace the core files, but fear I may lose the build and all my stuff. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
M tech-savvy level is at about medium rare.

I think deleting the bigboss repo is the problem.

I didn't remove the bigboss repository from the sources if thats what you are saying; I deleted actually it was the BossPaper mod and a couple others trying to make things run faster.
I reinstall BossPaper just now and it said it reinstall mobileterminal.
Now whenever I try to install anything I get this error:
Preparing Core Utilities (/bin)
unable to make backup link of *./bin/su before installing new version
Preparing Core Utilities (/bin)
Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
su ? is that a sudo command line? Is it saying that it doesn't have root access maybe. I can't get command line access with Prompt and mobileterminal not working now so I can't refresh the cydia installation with:
"apt-get update" at command prompt.
Maybe I'll try to SSH login and try it from my computer

ran apt-get update from a ssh telnet on the phone and reinstalled cydia distribution (I think that's what the command does).
Tried installing mobileterminal no change and still asks for essential upgrade.Last edited by Dimmthewitted; 12-27-2011 at 12:09 AM. Reason: clarification

Bricked it
So never install SBSettings BigBoss ICY and then try to remove them with CyDelete to save space.
So trying to fix the Cydia package I removed the util/bin tools upgrade thinking I would be able to reinstall. Since every other way to fix Cydia did not work.
Of course this broke the build. I thought that I could just rejailbreak, but after doing that I could only get the hook the phone to itunes screen image. I can no longer SSH to the phone.
I am having to recover and upgrade with Itunes and then I will try jailbreaking again. Basically I lost everything and am effed.
