cydia where do i start>>>??

hi guys just got an iphone 3gs from my mate and it has cydia installed on it... im using o2 as a network previously been using my reliable 2g one.... u all may laugh but the signal etc is fantastic compared to some 3gs ones ..

with cydia what can i not do???? someone said i cant upgrade the phone software as it will revert the hone back..

any apps i should download
