Default Alternatives to PDANet for Iphone

I'm always having issues with PDANet not connecting. If I open my iPhone or click the home button it works no problem and seems to get back the connection. What are some alternative to PDANet that allows you to connect using USB and use your local WIFI as the connection and not your 3G. Remember I need to be able to use the internet via USB with WIFI not 3G I don't want a huge bill here so the WIFI part is a must.

I just had a question for you because I've seen this a couple times and not sure I understand..

What's the advantage of tethering using local wifi? If there was a wifi signal wouldn't you just be able to connect the device without tethering?

@phatcamaro Because I don't have a wireless device and my Ethernet card is broke, so I use my iphone4 as an internet connection for my desk to seeing it's all I have.

@expl0itfinder does this allow me to connect my desktop to the internet using wifi? or does it had to be via 3G I do not want to sue my 3G
