There is no Purplera. If you mean purplerain then that wouldnt work on 4.1. It had to have been limera1n, greenposion, redsnow, snowbreeze or pwnage tool

x98car, you helped me with the iTOUCH jailbreak and used greenpoison, but now on my other device, my iPHONE, when I try to bring Cydia up, it says "loading" then keeps crashing over and over.

What kind of iPhone, what firmware is it on, and what did you use to jailbreak?

It has something to do with the version of cydia blackrain installs. You need to use a different jailbreak to install cydia. Redsnow 0.9.4 or jailbreakme.com should be fine.

Ok, so you are saying, just go ahead and jailbreak once again and Cydia should work fine? Now I had 3.1.2 on my itouch and lost it, so I don't want to lose it on my iPHONE. If I re-jailbreak it, everything that is on the phone, i.e. Cydia packages, apps, customizations, etc., will still be on the phone correct? Basically I'm just trying to make sure I keep everything I have and I don't have to upgrade to 4.1 or anything like that.

You will probably have to restore first but that shouldnt be a problem on a iPhone 3G as they dont need SHSH for pre 4.0 firmware.

Try using tiny umbrella or recboot to exit recovery.
