Umm, lol wtf Cydia?
Okay i've been jailbreaking ipods every since the first ipod came out and I never thought i'd see apps you'd have to purchase on Cydia. Come on guys, seriously? Isn't part of the whole point of jailbreaking is to get FREE KICK *** apps that you DIDN'T have to pay for? Yet for the past few months, any cool app I want (such as iLock or whatever it's called) it always says PURCHASE on the top bar. Of course the version for 3.0 firmware is free, but I think most people have upgraded to 4.0 by now which makes that app useless.
Another app that pisses me off, I downloaded another app similar to the one I mentioned above so I could password protect my other apps. When I downloaded it, it said it was FREE. However you have to purchase it to lock the apps I NEED locked (pictures, mail, videos, etc). And, if you REALLY think about it, jailbreaks aren't exactly the most stable thing on earth. It could have some annoying effects to your devices (Freezing, lagging, etc) and you'd have to restore/rejailbreak. What happens then? buy the apps again???? That's ********!!!!
So I don't get it and personally I want the old Cydia back. If people want money, they need to go and put their apps on the appstore and not mess up something that was once perfect. Or they can put the OPTION to donate if others wish. I just think People are too damn money greedy these days.
Another thing I've seen in Cydia, themes you have to purchase to use. Get ******* real guys no one's gonna pay 99 cents for a theme.Last edited by NinjaBaby; 12-09-2010 at 06:50 AM.

Plenty of people pay for themes I think that you are too young like maybe 15? and don't understand what developers or theme creators go through they take time to deliver good apps and themes. Yes the old cydia when it was first released had all apps for free but if the developer can make some money why not?

I've made my own apps, themes, and i even had my own repo at one time. It's not too complicated to make apps/themes. As long as you know how to write programs.
And it's pretty***** that people are posting their apps on a FREE SOURCE APPLICATION to be paid for. It ruins the point of even ******* having it! If you want to buy apps, go to the appstore....simple.
***EDIT***
Does it really matter my age anyway? I make the best themes in Cydia. Everyone of my themes were NEVER below four stars. NEVER. I spent 10 hours a day making themes and writing apps. My friend and I made the FIRST "task manager" for the iPod touch but we never released it.Last edited by z3r01; 12-09-2010 at 08:45 PM.

Nah man age doesn't matter don't know why I even mention it but still some people take a lot of time to make things they miss time with friends and family to bring the user something great or not so great either way its only 1 or 2 bucks at the most that nothing compared to what people spend on the AppStore. And they sure as hell not greedy.

It's obvious to me and probably 80% of this forum user group that you have no idea what jailbreaking is for.
-z3r01 says hush on this-
Oh yeah an i also developed the first program that printed flawless $100 bills but i never released it.Last edited by z3r01; 12-09-2010 at 08:37 PM.

No more insults! He is entitled to his/her opinion! Next insult gets infections, Now
Back to the topic...to the OP , ok so let's say your a developer that spends day and night neglecting his wife and life developing that kick grass app (said grass on purpose) and you send it to apple store but get rejected because of things they don't support (like MyWi for one)...are u gonna put it in Cydia for free or want some damn cash for your work? Be real for once...just because people put things on Cydia doesn't mean it has to be free...and just to let you kno , I been in this since jailbreaking first started...the apps before Cydia started charging weren't as great as the ones now....even when we was using ibrickr the apps was ehhh....

I don't think the whole point of jailbreaking is to get free things... It is beneficial for unlocking, it is also beneficial to customize your device, it is also beneficial in many other ways and isn't all about free stuff. With the way themes are looking nowadays, a lot of work and effort are obviously put into them. Developing more complex tweaks and apps for a jailbroken device also takes time and effort and it certainly deserves a payoff. Just because you buy a stock car and choose to put new rims on and add a custom alarm system on it doesn't mean the people doing it for you will do it for free. They work to fix up your car, so they get paid for it. It isn't any different if a developer chooses to charge for their product.

OP, you fail. Get over it or don't bother with Cydia. People work hard on apps, tweaks, themes, and such to make the most of our iPhones. It's only fair they make a profit from it.

Thats not the point. If you look way back to the first generation ipod, the installer app NEVER had people wanting profits for their stuff. They did it for the fun of it. Themes and apps should be FUN to make!! Its fun to see how satisfied people are with your themes! Why want a profit from it? its greedy! and it ruiend cydia. If you want a place to put profitable apps, make another source like cydia.

Your opinion is noted, however, nobody agrees with you.
If you want a source for free stuff. You go make that source and keep it free
Things evolve obviously. I like where Cydia is going. I gladly pay 99 cents. Even if it is a bad app I don't care. It's a dollar.

You're entitled to your opinion, it's just not very logical. I'm sure themers enjoy making themes, buy with the advancements of themes today they take up more time and effort. And that hard work if they find they want some sort of reward for, they are entitled to it. It's not like they sat there and used a computer-generated theme maker and one-click created it then ask for money. They actually spend time on it and work hard on it.

Why are you putting blame on people for wanting to make a profit? The jailbreak community is an emerging market place. Just like any other product for sale in the world if you don't want to pay for it then don't buy it. The fact remains thought that skilled and valuable labor hours go into the programming of the most valuable and productive apps in Cydia such as iReal/bite sms... MyWi... Infini tweaks. The community as a whole embraces these as "must have" apps. I for one am glad that they are paid apps b/c it gives the devs further incentive to upgrade and improve on them and think of new ones.

I agree with I.Annie, i don't mind paying $5 for the necessary items to have a theme the way I want it. I am happy with my timeless HD theme and a couple other widgets I have running along with it. And if i can pay $20 to use my unlimited data plan to tether my iPad IM GONNA DO IT there's no point in paying AT&T a monthly fee of $25 for two years to tether when I can pay $20 once and be done. Some developers do make great themes and won't charge for it. But on the other hand there are developers that spend countless hours making an outstanding theme, charge $.99-$2.99 AND are there in their thread on an hourly basis helping people figure out what and how to fix the theme.

I don't think you're going to win this one. You say you've made themes and apps and they're all great, that's fine. Good for you for contributing to the jailbreak community. You could charge too if you wanted because you think your work is worthwhile. But you dont charge. Why not? Because you think your contribution of 10 hours a day is worth no money. That's not a bad thing either, but everybody here would understand if you actually wanted to charge for it.

I dont mind buying apps/themes from Cydia. Hell, I buy all of my apps from the app store. I dont like using ********** only because the devs put in a lot of time into their work and should be rewarded.

yeah, go ahead and go look for apps like mywi or ifile in the appstore, im sure you will find it.
The main purpose of jailbreaking is to be able to run apps not allowed by apple and have more control of our devices, is not to download stuff for free. And the harder someone work for something, the better it will be at the end.
