Cydia crashes when "manage => packages" is opened
Hi guys,
I hope that somebody can help me with this problem of mine:
I have an Iphone 4 with the 4.1 firmware and had it jailbroken from the first day on (via limera1n) and it worked fine for me.
But since about two days ago (at least this is when I noticed, but it has worked before) cydia crashes immediately, when I go to the manage-section and want to open "packages" to look at my installed packages and it sends me back to the springboard.
When I open "sources", for example, it works just fine.
I did not install any packages lately and this is why I'm wondering what is wrong here.
I googled a while and searched some forums (including this one) and found some threads about deleting files via SSH in the folder /var/lib/apt/lists, but that didn't help at all. Maybe that's because it's for that kind of crash wich occurs at the loading-screen.
I would try reinstalling cydia but:
1. I don't know how and
2. I'm not sure if reinstalling cydia will affect my already installed packages.
I really would prefer not to restore and re-jailbreak my device because... you know... it takes a lot of time to do this ;-)
So, I hope you understand my problem and anyone knows how to solve it, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day :-)
PS: english is not my native language, so I'm sorry if it's not perfect

I've had similar problem few days ago. When scrolling through packages whether it was in Sections or manage-packages list whenever I scrolled through that list cydia crashed. It turned out that iTorrentLeech was causing the issue. iTorrentLeech was removed from cydia store (since it doesn't work with new TorrentLeech site) without notifying us and when I wanted to remove it by scrolling onto this app in cydia whether it was in sections or packages cydia crashed.
Basically it means that whenever I was scrolling through those lists in cydia and when reached the iTorrentLeech app, cydia crashed. I had to install CyDelete and remove iTorrentLeech that way, then cydia was working fine.
Your case could be similar and it could be one of those apps at the top of your list. If you remember what apps you had, go to sections and find them manually and see what happens. When I did that, cydia crashed, but only when I reached that particular app.Last edited by zYxMa; 12-11-2010 at 05:12 AM.

Ha! I got it!
Your comment got me thinking, zYxMa, and I went on it with pure logic.
It took me a few hours to figure it out, but apparently my Cydia crashed because of one particular package that was installed.
But the source from which I installed said package was no longer listed in Cydia (only god knows why...).
I added the source again and everything worked just fine.
Sometimes it's the little things, that keep you working...
Thanks again ;-)

I am having the same issue but I can't delete the app since the application does not appear anywhere in my springboard nor settings. The app that I was trying to remove is the "FaceTime Mod". I was trying to find it via ssh but no luck. Can you guys help? Thanks

Nice! I have been having this problem lately too. Only in the "i" section of manage packages. It crashes after "the app we use for games that starts with "i"", i guess we cant post the name but before/at intelli status bar icons. The only thing recently u installed was the iOS 4.2.1 sound package. I since removed it but cydia still crashes. I'm not sure what else is there. I have iFile if someone can direct me to where I need to go if I can fix it that way.
Other than that is there another way I can find out what is causing this?
Thanks
Wil
Edit- is there something wrong with the app that starts with i that I mentioned or the hackulo repo? If i try to search for that app I get to the st and cydia crashes. The repo source is still installed as well as the app itself. Should I try to uninstall and re install?

Well my issue is in the "F" section when managing my packages. And I'm a 100% sure that the "FaceTime Mod" app is what causing my cydia to crash since that's what I installed last. Since the package didn't came with an app in my springboard or settings, there's no way for me to delete the file using cydelete or whatever. The only logical way I can remove it is via SSH since my cydia crash each time I get to the "F" section to delete it, but I'm not exactly sure where to find em...any suggestions?

I've tried using iFile, but what I'm looking for isn't in the list of apps... I found both app folders in iFile.. the main apps, and the ones I've installed via Cydia.. I guess I'm looking for a tweak, ringtone, theme, or some other random thing I've installed from there. Ahh.. I hope I can figure this out soon. It's starting to become annoying.

Don't you have to purchase iFile from cydia to use em? There must be another way of deleting an app that's installed from cydia other than iFile or directly from cydia for that matter. Does anybody know how to access the apps that are installed from cydia via SSH? Any information can be a great help, thanks!

Yes I read the whole thread. I do not gave itorrent leach anything installed.
You can get to the files with iphonebrowser. Answer to who asked how to ssh in.
I'm going to try to delete ********** with cydelete then remove the hackulo repo and re install both. I hope this doesn't mess up appsync though. Maybe someone can let me know if it will before I do it.

Is the iPhonebrowser an app? Not sure what it means about using it to SSH? I know how to SSH but what I'm not sure is where to find the Cydia file that I wanted to delete as soon as I get in via SSH. For example root/var/mobile or something like that.

Oh well in that case I don't know. Sorry!
On another note. Uninstalled inst...s and re installed but I still have the problem. When I go to iFile and look at cydia apps there 2 apps between insta...s and ishshit. One is labeled ipodout.app and the other iosdiagnostics.app. Not sure what either are but am afraid to delete them.
Edit- something new, when I search in cydia for the app I'm having problems with I can type "INS" but when I hit T cydia crashes.

There is another thread with an attachment of an updated cydia. Download and install it and it will work. It fixed my problem.
It's titled Please help, Cydia problem.

SOLUTION: Faulty program is indeed easy to find, just go Sections-> All applications in Cydia and scroll down until you come to the program that causes the crash and then go to Mobile Terminal (install from Cydia), login as root by entering "su [Enter]" and entering password (default: alpine).
When you're logged as root, enter the command "dpkg -l" to see installed applications to see the faulty applications bundle id for ex the bundle id for adblocker that caused my crash was com.sull.adblocker so for that I gave the command "dpkg -r com.sull.adblocker" to remove it, also when u enter that command (dpkg -r app_bundle_id), it will tell if something is wrong with any package, so u know to remove them as well if they cause problems.
This method is to save you from the trouble to search the dpkg updates as i didn't have them, so this is quick and fast solution for the crashing.Last edited by evangr8; 12-30-2010 at 10:48 PM.

Im going crazy!
So I know its something that starts with a T that keeps crashing my cydia but I dont know what exactly. When I SSH into the phone and type the "dpkg -l" command the only files that show up containing the letter "t" are "tar" - tool for making tape archives and "top" at a glance process watching tool. Im not sure what either of these are and I was reluctant to delete them in case it will cause problems with something else. I tried scolling thru cydia various ways to see what app that contains a "T" in it keeps crashing but now matter how I try whenever the letter "T" shows up it crashes! This is very frustrating. Any other tips, tricks or advice is greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem; When I tapped the packages tab in Cydia, it crashed. Also, the sources list was completey empty too. I tried removing some sources using Cyfix, and that solved it for me. Try removing sources, and you might solve the problem

I've removed every added source I had and the problem still exists! This is so frustrating. Anytime type the letter T in cydia or scroll thru any or the apps starting with T is crashes. It's one of the first applications that start with a T because if I start on the letter U and scroll backwards I can get thru almost all of the T apps but when I get near the top of the list cydia just crashes! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
