cydia crashes.i have researched this please help :[

ok i have a 3gs on 3.1.2 and cydia keeps crashing when i open it.i have deleted the files in the list by sshing into the phone that didnt work so i restored the firmware didnt back up from an old backup,i set the phone up as new and then rejailbroke and redownloaded cydia and it still crashes everytime.....any help here would be awesome i feel like ive exhausted every soloution

im using blackrain. i have had this phone jailbroke for like 1 yr and about a month ago cydia stopped working. i left it alone cause it wasnt bothering me but i wanted to get some new themes so i tried fixing it but.... i originally jailbroke with black rain way back when i got the phone so im lost on what to do

That is probably your issue. Blackra1n may be loading a old cydia which is giving you issues. Try using redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak instead if you want to stay on 3.1.2. Or you can go to 4.1 and jailbreak with greenpoison or limera1n. If you require unlock then you can use sn0wbreeze or pwnage tool to go to 4.1 and preserve your baseband so that you can stay unlocked.

ill try redsnow now. i dont currently require the unlock but can u give me a quick run down of that process for my future knowledge. i ask because you mentioned preserving baseband and whatnot and im not familiar with that

If you dont require unlock just update to 4.1 and use one of the new tools limera1n/greenpoison/redsn0w 0.9.6b2

well i may require the unlock at a future date so by upgrading will the still be possible?

A new unlock should be out this month so you should be fine if you want to unlock in the future.

well that seems to have worked using redsnow. do u recommend that i upgrade to 4.1?

Its up to you. I always need the latest firmware on my iphone but thats just me.

Check out the iphone page at apple.com. It lists all the new stuff of 4.0 and 4.1

Thank you SO much. I sold my old phone and advertised it as having 3.1.2 unlocked and jailbroken. Went to wipe my data and re-JB and spent ALL last night trying different methods (pwnagetool/sn0wbreeze/blackra1n) until coming across this thread. Worked on the first try with redsn0w 0.9.4!
