Cydia crash (tried everything!)
I have a iphone 3gs firmware 3.1.3 jailbroken from pwnage tool. After i updated my winterboard yesterday my cydia crashes. i tried removing everything from lists folder exept partial but it still crashes. then i tried "apt-get remove cydia" and then "apt-get install cydia" in mobile terminal. when i do "apt-get install cydia" is says the following new pachage will be installed : cydia essentail. then I type "Y" to continue and it says "could not perform immediate configuration on 'essential'. please see man 5 apt.conf under APT: :Immediate-configuration for details. (2)"
thanks for any help!
also cydia does not show up on springboard any more; i thinks its uninstalled now

Older thread but for those who search "Could not perform immediate configuration on 'essential'.Please see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details." on goggle and are having this problem will end up here. The best solution for me was to re jailbreak.
I had problems with cydia running slowly and taking forever for cydia to reload or refresh. I removed cydia via shh terminal command "apt-get remove cydia" then thought apt-get install cydia would work but it didn't. I got :
"Could not perform immediate configuration on 'essential'.Please see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details."
I went to JailbreakMe and rejail-broke(??) my phone. So hope this helps to those of you who are searching these terms on google.
