Cydia SOURCE troubles (BAD URL)...
Hy,
I just added a new source, that I got from a forum to cydia:
mapleidea.com
to begin: DO NOT ADD THIS SOURCE!!!
now. everytime i add another source, it tells me, that this "cake.mapleidea.com/cydia" is a bad url.
but it doesn't appear anywhere.
how can i delete a source "that isn't there"?
and how can i now manage to get rid of it?
Thanks for your help,
Gio
as i added some other sources, i got for most of them the following different error message:
"sub-process bzip2 returned an error code (2)"
he sources were:
and scrambled egg paper clip at paperclipsandscrambledeggs.com
richcreations.com

And again: If you could help me to get rid of them, you would helo me a lot.

You have to have it installed via cydia.

I figured it ou If you have not already go an answer.
In /private/var/lib/cydia delete out your bad url in the metadata.plist file
also in:
/private/var/lib/apt/list
and
/private/var/lib/apt/list/partial
delete out any files with the bad url in the name
no more bad source.Yeah I'm an iPhoneaholic!! So What!!!

I had to SSH into the phone with cyberduck.
Copied the file to my computer.
Searched the metadata.plist in textedit and deleted the bad URL and then saved the file and copied it back to the phone.
I have never used iphone browser. I have always just SSH'ed to the phone.
You could use ifile to find the file, you can even open up the file in ifile. I don't know how it would go with no search function in ifile. It will be a tedious process searching for the url in that plist.Yeah I'm an iPhoneaholic!! So What!!!

Ok, none of this or anything else worked for me, so after hours of my time and endless sweat and scouring for info I made my own tutorial to fix source problems with Cydia so I hope this helps:
Part A:
Use CyberDuck or whatever SFTP and navigate to
/private/var/lib/cydia
and download metadata.plist
and back it up then edit it,
you can dl PlistEditPro from apple
and do a search and find the bad url then
use it to delete them from the
metadata.plist file. Now upload that back to
/private/var/lib/cydia
and overwrite the old one.
do the same with the following
SSH into your device.
Navigate to the /etc/apt/ folder.
Backup the cydia.list OR sources.list.d file.
Edit the cydia.list OR sources.list.d file with a text editor and remove the entry related to the problematic source.
Part B:
Go to /private/var/lib/apt/list
and
/private/var/lib/apt/list/partial
and look for and delete any files with the bad url.
That should do it.....Reboot see if that fixes the prob
NO.... Do not ask me any questions as I have spent enough time....if this doesn't help search.

Worked for me thanks.... does seem a long winded process that should really be automated by saurik....human entry is going to account for most errors ...

hey frostbite as i said thanks for the guide. . my point was aimed at cydia designer saurik hence mentioned his names you shouldnt have to be editing config files because wrong source has been entered or changed. . im pretty competent with mobile terminal and have various methods with which i install my deb files when required.. dont be so quick to think people are shitting on you when i never mentioned your name.
