I went through the steps outlined in this thread an in all the folders mentioned, there were'nt any files for me to delete.

All of a sudden about 1.5 weeks ago my cydia started crashing just like everyone describes. It seemed to happen to me after I did the carrier update to get MMS working with ATT.

Anyone have any other ideas on what to check? Maybe a source that isn't working???

Thank you so much. I love google and forums. I just jailbroke my iphone 2 days ago and saved myself days worth of research with this forum in particular. Thanks!

1 - go to DiskAid - USB Flash Drive for iPhone & iPod Touch. Transfer Files betwen your Computer and your iPhone or iPod Touch. and installed DiskAid (30 days free trial)
2 - plug iPhone in USB
3 - open DiskAid and at the left botton corner choose: RootFolder (next, read the message and click OK)
4 - navigate to: var/lib/apt/lists where, in my case (again, IN MY CASE), the problem was the following file:
    apt.bigboss.us.com_repofiles_cydia_dists_stable_ma in_binary-iphoneos-arm_Packages
5 - delete this file or another one if necessary. I detelete one by one until find the problem's one. You do not need to restart your iPhone for this. Just delete the file and try to open Cydia in your iPhone.
    Hugs
i cannot open cydia as well, i was downloading a theme in cydia and halfway through my iphone crashed an restarted...now cydia will not open. so i tried this method above but for some reason i cannot open the rootfolder it is greyed out i tried iphone explorer as well and cannot open the rootfolder either. so any suggestions how to fix cydia.

just a side note, my cousin overseas jailbroke my phone i am clueless on how to jailbreak so just trying to find the easiest way to fix this problem

    thank you for your input

Sorry for the extreme bump, but I think I found the solution.

In 'tmp/cydia.log', near the beginning of the crash report it should say something like "dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' " (not sure if it's always the exact same command)

Open MobileTerminal and execute the commands:

    su

    alpine

If you've changed your password use that instead

    dpkg --configure -a

If it said something different in the crash report use that instead

    should be fixed

hey guys, im not sure if this will help anyone but i was having problems with my Ipod 4G 4.3.3 firmware, and resolved it so i am posting what i did that fixed it. it was a simple fix but not one that most ppl would think of lol

the problem was that i interrupted Cydia while loading and everytime i went back into it it wouldnt load, the sources and packages kept failing to load. i tried to re-jailbreak the ipod but it did not help, tried rebooting and nothing was working.

the fix like i said was simple. when the screen comes up and says it cant load them and all them errors, just poke "return to Cydia" then go to Manage, click sources, then its going to go through all them errors again (annoying i know). then after click return to Cydia again. once u do that u can have the option to add a source like u normally would. add any source, i used apt.************** because it was already on there so maybe u should use one that you already added. (i didnt get to test this on anyone else's ipod so im not sure if it matters if its one that was on it already or not) once u have added that one then all the others will come back and they will load like before.

so basically just add a source (preferably one already on the device) and the rest should start working again.

    Hope this helps

You can add those sources through cydias homepage too. That may help some
