cydia wants to update itself and then crashes?

Hi I have never had cydia before but after running it for the first time and told I have 40 updates to perform I noticed one of them was Cydia itself. Thinking it might be important I did that and found that the logo changes from purple to brown and then cydia shut itself down immediately after opening from then on. Is this the cydia that only works on 2.0 and is that the reason it is not running on my 1.1.4? As it did not say this anywhere in the update, and without doing it I am not sure how to remove the red number from the cydia icon on my springboard.

My logo is brown, and I'm using 2.0. Maybe thats why it's not working for you.

turns out i had to do all of the updates in one, not just the cydia!
