Manually install apps.

Hi, I was just wondering... is it possible to manually download apps from reps and install them via ssh?

Using ssh, I've had some success copying apps (entire folder) into the iphones application directory and changing permissions. Some work some don't. My minimal knowledge of unix is a major handicap. I've seen "bits and pieces" on the subject. I think I'll try a few searches. I'd like to know more myself!
